Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2010 ENROLLED SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 116 BY SENATOR CHEEK A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON To recognize and pay tribute to those fallen police officers and firefighters that have served with distinction and have sacrificed their all unselfishly for the sake of others. WHEREAS, the people of the state of Louisiana owe a great debt to those brave men and women of law enforcement and fire protection whose dedication, courage, and commitment to public service sustains an orderly society; and WHEREAS, these are the first responders, brave professionals, who are the first to arrive at the scenes of fire, accident, or natural disaster, to offer assistance, to administer first aid, and to protect life and property at grave peril to themselves; and WHEREAS, these unique individuals come from all walks of life, don the uniform of their chosen specialty, and become one within the brotherhood of public safety; and WHEREAS, each organization upholds a singular oath; policemen swear to protect and to serve, while firefighters vow to fight what others fear; and WHEREAS, policemen and firefighters protect society through a constant vigil performed twenty-four hours per day and seven days per week; and WHEREAS, all of Louisiana's law enforcement officers and firefighters merit a most sincere measure of commendation for their remarkable dedication to preserving the safety and well-being of their fellow citizens; and WHEREAS, it is most important that the citizenry of Louisiana be made aware of the duties, responsibilities, hazards, and sacrifices undertaken by police and firefighters, whose collective ranks suffer ten line-of-duty fatalities annually within the state; and WHEREAS, in memoriam, Louisiana's fallen firefighters and police officers are recognized for their valor, commitment, and public service, and duly noted are the sacrifices made by their families as well. SCR NO. 116 ENROLLED Page 2 of 2 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby recognize and honor the memory of those law enforcement officers and firefighters, slain in the line of duty, who have given a full measure of themselves to protect the life and property of others. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend all law enforcement and fire protection personnel for their noble calling, and does further express to them the enduring appreciation of the people of the state of Louisiana. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the Professional Firefighters Association of Louisiana and the Louisiana Union of Police Association.
