SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 29
BY SENATOR KOSTELKA AND REPRESENTATI VE DOWNS 
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON
To express the sincere and heartfelt condolences of the Legislature of Louisiana upon the
death of Virgil Davis Hunt.
WHEREAS, it is with great sorrow and sadness that the legislature and the citizens
of Louisiana have learned of the death of Virgil Davis Hunt; and
WHEREAS, Virgil Davis Hunt was the first baby born in the Ruston Hospital on
November 28, 1928; and
WHEREAS, he attended A. E. Phillips Laboratory School and graduated from
Ruston High School in 1945; and
WHEREAS, after high school he attended Staunton Military Academy in Staunton,
Virginia and graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1959 with an Industrial
Engineering degree; and
WHEREAS, he respectfully served and protected his country in the United States
Army as an officer during the Korean War; and
WHEREAS, he returned to Ruston where he was a principal in Hunt Lumber
Company and during his years in the lumber and plywood business, he was president of the
Southern Forest Products Association and the Southern Pine Association, and was partner
in numerous business ventures after his retirement from the family lumber company; and
WHEREAS, he was a loving and devoted husband to his wife of fifty-two years,
Sandra Elizabeth Gray of Minden, and a committed father, grandfather, great-grandfather,
brother and uncle whose love of family was of utmost importance in his life; and
WHEREAS, he was a lifelong Presbyterian, avid golfer, and outdoorsman and a very
loyal and enthusiastic supporter of Georgia Tech, who enjoyed his memberships at Squire
Creek Country Club in Ruston, Louisiana and Belle Meade Country Club in Nashville,
Tennessee where he enjoyed his many golfing friends; and SCR NO. 29	ENROLLED

WHEREAS, upon his death the world lost a unique individual who left an indelible
mark upon his community and the lives of all those who knew him; and
WHEREAS, the success of the state of Louisiana, the strength of our communities,
and the overall vitality of American society depend in great measure on dedicated men like
Virgil Davis Hunt.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
extend its sincere and heartfelt condolences to the family of Virgil Davis Hunt.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
family of Virgil Davis Hunt.
