SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 36

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON
To commend the Natchitoches Central High School Lady Chiefs girl's basketball team upon
winning the Class 5A state championship.
WHEREAS, it is appropriate to commend the Natchitoches Central High School
Lady Chiefs girl's basketball team upon the completion of a sensational 2009-2010 season
and to congratulate the players and coaches on winning the Class 5A state basketball
championship; and
WHEREAS, the Natchitoches Central Lady Chiefs finished the season with an
exceptional overall record of 31-1 with five seniors going out as champions; and
WHEREAS, in the championship game, the Lady Chiefs defeated Southwood 59-52
at the University Center at Southeastern Louisiana University; and
WHEREAS, according to coach Emma Boozman, "State champs sounds wonderful.
It's a long time coming"; and
WHEREAS, the Lady Chiefs' victory against Southwood claimed their first state title
since a 4A championship in 1987 – before Class 5A girls' basketball and any of its players
were born; and
WHEREAS, number one seed Natchitoches spent most of the second and third
quarters trying to catch number two seed Southwood; and
WHEREAS, Lady Chiefs' Victoria Rachal, picked up the slack and hit three quick
three-point shots as part of a 10-2 run to tie the game in the third quarter; and
WHEREAS, senior, Brandy Broome, hit a three-pointer, stole an inbound pass and
found senior, TaLisa Boyd, cutting to the goal for a layup to give Natchitoches Central a 48-

WHEREAS, Broome led the late 19-3 run with her defense, energy and hustle
allowing Broome to finish with twelve points and most valuable player honors; and
WHEREAS, the Lady Chiefs would never look back, eventually opening an eleven
point margin before setting the final score of 59-52; and
WHEREAS, Coach Boozman indicated that "all the coaches knew that Natchitoches
Central was always a good team and we have always been in the top ten"; and
WHEREAS, additionally, each member of the Lady Chiefs took part in the
championship honors and performed at the highest level of excellence throughout the season,
and each of the Lady Chiefs deserves recognition for her vital contributions to the winning
effort; and
WHEREAS, the victorious members of the Natchitoches Central Lady Chiefs girls'
basketball team consists of Victoria Rachal, Tonisha Rainey, Shetoni Tousant, Kaelyn
Guerin, Raven Winslow, Daquita Pye, Gabby Bellow and Samantha LaCour; and
WHEREAS, the five seniors on the team, Brandy Broome, Darnisha Hamilton, Jolie
Bellow, TaLisa Boyd and Shaterrica Demars, provided great leadership and will be deeply
missed when they graduate; and
WHEREAS, Coach Emma Boozman, with Assistant Coaches Nicole LaCour, Tee
Holden, Akilah Givens, and John Boozman, and Managers, Erica Hendricks, Megan
Sessions, Ariel Wilson, Taylor Oliver, and Charmara Briggs, have instilled in their players
the kind of leadership and motivational skills needed to succeed both on and off the court;
and
WHEREAS, through its display of good sportsmanship and dedication to excellence,
the Natchitoches Central High School girls' basketball team has brought a tremendous sense
of honor and pride to its school and surrounding community.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
commend the members of the Natchitoches Central High School girls' basketball team for
winning the Class 5A state basketball championship, does hereby express sincere and
heartfelt congratulations to the Natchitoches Central Lady Chiefs in recognition of their
outstanding athletic abilities and their thrilling season, and does hereby extend to the team
and its coaches best wishes for success in the future. SCR NO. 36	ENROLLED

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
Coach Emma Boozman, head coach of the Natchitoches Central High School girls'
basketball team.
