Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2010 ENROLLED SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 59 BY SENATORS CHEEK AND SHAW A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON To commend Andrew Murphy, a student at Captain Shreve High School in Shreveport, on being named the 2010 Louisiana High School Student of the Year. WHEREAS, the Students of the Year Awards Program is sponsored by the Louisiana State Superintendent through the Department of Education and the State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education to recognize outstanding elementary, middle, and high school students who have demonstrated excellent academic achievement, leadership ability, and citizenship; and WHEREAS, Andrew Murphy is a senior at Captain Shreve High School where he serves as captain of the football and baseball teams, maintains a high grade point average, and is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes; and WHEREAS, he is the varsity center on the Gator football team and the varsity catcher for the Gator baseball team, having earned All-District, All-City, and All-State awards for both football and baseball; and WHEREAS, Andrew was named to the football All-State Academic Team, named as a Wendy's Heisman state finalist, and is the recipient of the national Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame Outstanding High School Scholar Athlete scholarship; and WHEREAS, he is the Boys' Vice President of the Student Council and a member of its Executive Board; and WHEREAS, Andrew has won numerous awards and honors at the school district, state and national levels, including being named a Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership Ambassador, the Elks Student of the Month, the Key Club Regional Secretary of the Year, a Jefferson Scholar nominee, a recipient of the President's Volunteer Service Award, and was also selected to receive the Masonic Lodge's Honesty and Integrity Award; and SCR NO. 59 ENROLLED Page 2 of 2 WHEREAS, he serves as co-president of the Key Club, secretary of the National Honor Society, vice president of Mu Alpha Theta, ad editor of the yearbook staff, and is a Captain Shreve Ambassador; and WHEREAS, Andrew's passions are playing the piano and traveling; and WHEREAS, he is a National Music Teachers Association piano composition state level winner, a state winner in the Parent Teacher Student Association Reflections Music Composition contest, and enjoys playing at school functions; and WHEREAS, he has participated in educational programs such as President Classroom in Washington, D.C., Louisiana Boys' State, and national, regional, and state student council conventions, and studied abroad at Macquerie University in Sydney, Australia; and WHEREAS, Andrew Murphy merits a sincere and heartfelt measure of commendation for the tremendous honor and pride that he brings to his family, friends, and community, Captain Shreve High School, Caddo Parish, and the state of Louisiana. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend and congratulate Andrew Murphy on being named the 2010 Louisiana High School Student of the Year and wishes him continued success in his future endeavors.
