SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 139
BY SENATOR N. GAUTREAUX 
A RESOLUTION
To commend and congratulate Ryan O'Neill Poche' upon his selection as an alternate from
Louisiana at the Hugh O'Brian World Leadership Congress in Los Angeles,
California.
WHEREAS, Ryan O'Neill Poche', a sophomore from Erath High School, attended
the Louisiana Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership Seminar held in Baton Rouge, Louisiana,
June 4 - 6, 2010, joined by one hundred twenty-one participants from high schools around
the state; and
 WHEREAS, at training seminars Ryan O'Neill Poche' and other young leaders
discussed core values inspired by the Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership program (HOBY) that
include an appreciation for diversity of cultures, the positive social impact of volunteer
activities, and the need for activism within every community; and
WHEREAS, HOBY was established in 1958 by screen actor, Hugh O'Brian,
following his visit to Africa, where he met with famed physician and humanitarian,
Dr. Albert Schweitzer, and was so influenced by the doctor's work that he founded the
organization and designed it to encourage young people to take on roles of leadership within
their communities; and
WHEREAS, HOBY espouses the idea that the most important tenet in education is
to teach young people to think for themselves, and now the organization boasts an alumni
of more than three hundred thousand former participants; and
WHEREAS, Ryan O'Neill Poche' was chosen as an alternate to represent Louisiana
at this year's Hugh O'Brian World Leadership Congress, to be held July 23 - 30, 2010, on
the campus of the University of California (UCLA), in Los Angeles; and
WHEREAS, at the Hugh O'Brian World Leadership Congress students learn
firsthand about other cultures, express opinions, form friendships, and exchange ideas in a

WHEREAS, the Hugh O'Brian World Leadership Congress seeks to inspire high
school students to excel as leaders, using friendship as a catalyst in their learning experience.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of Legislature of Louisiana does
hereby commend and congratulate Ryan O'Neill Poche' upon his selection as an alternate for
Louisiana at the Hugh O'Brian World Leadership Congress in Los Angeles, and does hereby
recognize the pride and honor that this wonderful young man has brought to his family,
friends, community, and the state of Louisiana.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
Ryan O'Neill Poche'.
