SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 140
BY SENATOR N. GAUTREAUX 
A RESOLUTION
To commend Abigail Marie Yesso of Vanderbilt Catholic High School upon her selection
as a representative of Louisiana at the Hugh O'Brian World Leadership Congress in
Los Angeles, California.
WHEREAS, Abigail Marie Yesso, a sophomore from Vanderbilt Catholic High
School in Houma, Louisiana, attended the Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership Seminar held in
Baton Rouge, on June 4 - 6, 2010, joined by one hundred twenty-one participants from high
schools around the state; and
 WHEREAS, at training seminars Abigail Marie Yesso and other young leaders
discussed core values inspired by the Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership program (HOBY) that
include an appreciation for diversity of cultures, the positive social impact of volunteer
activities, and the need for activism within every community; and
WHEREAS, HOBY was established in 1958 by screen actor, Hugh O'Brian,
following his visit to Africa, where he met with famed physician and humanitarian,
Dr. Albert Schweitzer, and was so influenced by the doctor's work that he founded the
organization and designed it to encourage young people to take on roles of leadership within
their communities; and
WHEREAS, HOBY espouses the idea that the most important tenet in education is
to teach young people to think for themselves, and now the organization boasts an alumni
of more than three hundred thousand former participants; and
WHEREAS, Abigail Marie Yesso was chosen to be a representative of Louisiana at
this year's Hugh O'Brian World Leadership Congress, to be held July 23 - 30, 2010, on the
campus of the University of California (UCLA), in Los Angeles; and SR NO. 140	ENROLLED

WHEREAS, at the Hugh O'Brian World Leadership Congress students learn
firsthand about other cultures, express opinions, form friendships, and exchange ideas in a
comfortable environment; and
WHEREAS, the Hugh O'Brian World Leadership Congress seeks to inspire high
school students to excel as leaders, using friendship as a catalyst in their learning experience.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of Legislature of Louisiana does
hereby commend and congratulate Abigail Marie Yesso upon her selection as a
representative for Louisiana at the Hugh O'Brian World Leadership Congress in
Los Angeles, and does hereby recognize the pride and honor that this wonderful young
woman has brought to her family, friends, community, and the state of Louisiana.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
Abigail Marie Yesso.
