Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2010 ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 193 BY SENATOR BROOME A RESOLUTION To urge and request the Senate Committee on Local and Municipal Affairs to study and make recommendations relative to issues related to exploring better ways to effectively deliver growth management techniques to community stakeholders and to advance local, regional, and state policies in our state. WHEREAS, in communities across the nation, there is a growing concern that current development patterns, dominated by what some call "sprawl", are no longer in the long-term interest of our cities, existing suburbs, small towns, or rural communities; and WHEREAS, Louisiana needs to have policies and recommendations in place that will help communities plan, develop, recover, and grow in ways to enhance community livability and sustainability and to aid in creating more economic development opportunities; and WHEREAS, Louisiana land use planners and leaders in areas across the state need more guidance and understanding of key growth and land use issues. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby urge and request the Senate Committee on Local and Municipal Affairs to study and make recommendations relative to issues related to exploring better ways to effectively deliver growth management techniques to community stakeholders and to advance local, regional, and state policies in our state. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the committee shall specifically solicit the input, recommendations, and advice of those who can provide relevant information and suggestions to the committee based upon their expertise and experience, including but not limited to the following: (1)The Louisiana REALTORS Association. (2)The Louisiana Homebuilders Association. (3)The Louisiana Municipal Association. (4)The Louisiana Police Jury Association. (5)The American Planners Association, Louisiana Chapter. (9)The American Association of Retired Persons. (10)The American Society of Landscape Architects, Louisiana Chapter. (11)The American Insurance Association. (12)The Louisiana Department of Economic Development. (13)The Association of Metropolitan Planning Organizations. (14)The Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals. (15)The Louisiana Housing Finance Authority. (16)The Louisiana Public Health Institute. (17)The Louisiana Housing Alliance. (18)The Division of Administration, office of community development. (19)The Department of Social Services. (20)The Louisiana Disaster Recovery Foundation. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that all departments, boards, agencies, officers, and institutions of the state and all subdivisions thereof shall cooperate with the committee in providing information to assist the committee in carrying out its responsibility pursuant to this Resolution. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the committee shall convene its first meeting no later than September 1, 2010. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the committee shall report the results of its study and its recommendations, including proposed legislation, to the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana by March 15, 2011.
