SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 28

A RESOLUTION
To declare Tuesday, April 27, 2010, Military Family Day in the Louisiana Senate in honor
of America's military personnel, and in particular, in honor of Louisiana's fallen
heroes.
WHEREAS, Louisiana has provided significant military manpower in America's
Global War On Terrorism; and
WHEREAS, on March 5, 2010, Louisiana began deployment of the 256
th
Infantry
Brigade, one of the premier national guard units in America, to Operation Iraqi Freedom for
a second tour of duty there; and
WHEREAS, the 256
th
Infantry Brigade served with great courage and distinction
during its 2004-2005 deployment to Iraq, engaging enemy forces like no other guard unit
before it, at a cost of thirty-two soldiers lost in the fighting; and
WHEREAS, Louisiana continues to send its individual armed forces personnel and
national guard units to the Iraqi and Afghan Theaters and into harm's way; and
WHEREAS, Louisiana has participated heavily in Iraq, Afghanistan and other world
hot spots, sending assets, both personnel and material, to stop the terrorist threat posed there
by those who would harm America and her people; and
WHEREAS, Louisiana has a proud tradition of active participation in this country's
fights for freedom, the many battles for liberty and the unending struggle for democracy;
and
WHEREAS, the Louisiana Senate has recognized and praised those who serve and
has honored each of its fallen soldiers with a Condolence Resolution so that no one will ever
forget their outstanding service and sacrifice in the war on terrorism, in Iraq, Afghanistan,
and elsewhere; and
WHEREAS, it is entirely appropriate that the upper chamber of the Louisiana
Legislature extends an invitation to the families of those who serve and of those who have
fallen to be the guests of the state of Louisiana and the Louisiana Senate for a day of

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby declare Tuesday, April 27, 2010, Military Family Day in the Senate in order to
honor all American military personnel, and in particular to properly honor Louisiana's fallen
soldiers and their families.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to each
family represented in the ceremony.
