SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 54
BY SENATOR CLAITOR 
A RESOLUTION
To commend Devon Wade, LSU student, on being named a Truman Scholar.
WHEREAS, on Tuesday, March 30, 2010, Devon Wade, a student at Louisiana State
University and Agricultural and Mechanical College was named a Truman Scholar for his
community service and academic achievements; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Wade is one of this year's 60 Truman Scholars, representing 54
colleges and universities across the United States; and
WHEREAS, these recipients were selected from a pool of 576 candidates nominated
by 245 colleges and universities; and
WHEREAS, he is the only student selected from Louisiana to receive the scholarship
this year; and
WHEREAS, Devon Wade is LSU's first African-American Truman Scholar; and
WHEREAS, by overcoming great obstacles and joining No More Victims, Inc.,
which aids children of incarcerated parents, he was able to share his personal experiences
and raise public awareness of the struggles of these children; and
WHEREAS, as a veteran representative and mentor for the organization No More
Victims, Inc., Mr. Wade has spoken both locally and nationally; and
WHEREAS, a junior at LSU, Devon Wade is pursuing a double major in sociology
with a concentration in criminology and African and African-American studies, and will
graduate early in December 2010; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Wade selected LSU over all other universities in his home state of
Texas, demonstrating the ability of LSU to attract young talent to our state; and
WHEREAS, after graduation, he plans to pursue a Ph.D. in sociology and focus on
social phenomena that plague urban or inner city children and families; and SR NO. 54	ENROLLED

WHEREAS, Devon Wade joins five other LSU students who have received Truman
Scholarships to date; and
WHEREAS, Truman Scholars are required to work in public service for three of the
seven years following completion of a foundation-funded graduate degree program as a
condition of their receiving Truman funds.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby commend Devon Wade, LSU student, on being named a Truman Scholar.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
Devon Wade and Louisiana State University.
