Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2010 ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 55 BY SENATOR CHEEK A RESOLUTION To commend and congratulate Charlotte Gates on being the recipient of the prestigious Fulbright Fellowship. WHEREAS, it is with great pride that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana has learned of the great honor bestowed upon Louisiana State University senior, Charlotte Gates, who has been awarded the prestigious Fulbright Fellowship; and WHEREAS, Charlotte Gates, a psychology major and student in the Honors College, will graduate in May, 2010 and plans to pursue a Ph.D.; and WHEREAS, the fellowship will allow Charlotte Gates to travel to Toulouse, France, where she will study the curious phenomenon of Synesthesia at CNRS, the National Center for Scientific Research, a field of study which is relatively new with only a few other prominent research centers in England, and Australia; and WHEREAS, Charlotte Gates grew up in Shreveport, Louisiana, and graduated from Caddo Magnet High School; and WHEREAS, each year the Fulbright Fellowship Program, which is administered by the United States Department of State and assisted by the Institute of International Education, allows more than one thousand one hundred Americans to study and conduct research in over one hundred forty countries; and WHEREAS, the program is designed to give recent graduates opportunities for personal and professional development, including international experience; and WHEREAS, study proposals may include university course work, classes in a music conservatory or art school, independent research, classroom teaching, or a combination thereof; and WHEREAS, the success of our country, the strength of our communities, and the overall vitality of American society depend, in great measure, upon young adults like Charlotte Gates who continue to strive for a better tomorrow. SR NO. 55 ENROLLED Page 2 of 2 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend and congratulate Charlotte Gates upon being awarded the prestigious Fulbright Fellowship, and on her numerous outstanding achievements.
