SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 57
BY SENATOR GUILLORY 
A RESOLUTION
To commend and congratulate Anna Normand of Opelousas, Louisiana, upon her selection
as a Udall Scholar for 2010.
WHEREAS, as a promising junior in the Honors College at Louisiana State
University, Anna Normand, is the recipient of the Morris K. Udall and Stewart L. Udall
Foundation Scholarship; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Normand, a chemistry major, intends to earn an Bachelor of
Science degree in May 2011, then pursue post graduate studies in environmental science,
with concentrations in research and public policy; and
WHEREAS, her career focus is in environmental public service, well founded in
coastal protection and wetlands restoration; and
WHEREAS, Anna has participated in two student-based public service activities:
Louisiana Marsh University, a service trip that brought LSU students to plant beach grass
on Grand Isle, and Acorns for Hope, a bike ride across the state to plant live oak saplings;
and
WHEREAS, Anna's extracurricular activities at LSU include participation as area
chairperson for Civic and Social Awareness for Volunteer LSU, mentor and research scholar
in LA-STEM Research Scholars Program, service officer in LSU Army Scotch Guard, and
a member of LSU Mortar Board; and
WHEREAS, Anna Normand has learned, firsthand, the severe affects of hurricanes
on South Louisiana due to coastal erosion and loss of barrier islands; and
WHEREAS, she has volunteered for hurricane relief efforts, created supply drives

WHEREAS, in 1992, the Morris K. Udall Scholarship and Excellence in National
Environmental Policy Foundation was authorized by Congress to honor Representative
Udall, whose legacy of thirty years of public service as a congressman from Arizona
provided leadership on national environmental issues and supported increased tribal
self-government for Native Americans and Alaskan Natives; and
WHEREAS, the foundation is supported by a trust fund in the U.S. Treasury and
private sector contributions and, since 1996, has honored one thousand one hundred fifty-
five Udall Scholars; and
WHEREAS, Anna Normand has displayed a commitment to academic achievement
and a future career in environmental issues with tremendous leadership potential; and
WHEREAS, Anna Normand is an outstanding scholar and an exceptional individual
whose future holds great promise.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby commend and congratulate Anna Normand upon her selection as a 2010 Udall
Scholar.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to LSU
student, Anna Normand.
