ENROLLED Page 1 of 2 First Extraordinary Session, 2011 HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 20 BY REPRESENTATIVE THIBAUT A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON To commend the Louisiana Rabbit Hunters Association on their activities to organize rabbit hunters and to present a unified cohesive voice for rabbit hunters in the state of Louisiana. WHEREAS, the Louisiana Rabbit Hunters Association was formed in May 2010, in response to possible actions by the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission, which would have had the effect of reducing the opportunities for small game hunters to pursue their passion of hunting for rabbits and squirrel; and WHEREAS, in the spring of 2010, the Wildlife and Fisheries Commission was considering action that would have extended the deer season into February, a month traditionally reserved for small game hunting of rabbits and squirrel; and WHEREAS, at the time, there was no organized group who could or would articulate the concerns and perspective of rabbit and squirrel hunters, and who could tell the commission what the impact of extending deer season would be on that segment of the hunting public; and WHEREAS, the Louisiana Rabbit Hunters Association was formed by a small group of hunters to be the voice of rabbit hunters all over the state and has successfully articulated their position relative to the protection and preservation of rabbit season before the commission; and WHEREAS, within six months of the creation of the Louisiana Rabbit Hunters Association, the membership had grown from a very few members to over two hundred fifty members across south Louisiana; and WHEREAS, during 2011, the association has expanded its efforts into other parts of Louisiana with chapters having been established in north and central Louisiana, all to give a unified, coordinated, louder voice to rabbit hunters throughout the state; and ENROLLEDHCR NO. 20 Page 2 of 2 WHEREAS, it is the intention of the Louisiana Rabbit Hunters Association to continue to give voice to the thoughts and concerns of rabbits hunters throughout the state of Louisiana. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the Louisiana Rabbit Hunters Association on their activities to organize rabbit hunters and to present a unified cohesive voice for rabbit hunters in the state of Louisiana.
