First Extraordinary Session, 2011
HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 20
BY REPRESENTATIVE THIBAUT
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON
To commend the Louisiana Rabbit Hunters Association on their activities to organize rabbit
hunters and to present a unified cohesive voice for rabbit hunters in the state of
Louisiana.
WHEREAS, the Louisiana Rabbit Hunters Association was formed in May 2010, in
response to possible actions by the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission, which
would have had the effect of reducing the opportunities for small game hunters to pursue
their passion of hunting for rabbits and squirrel; and
WHEREAS, in the spring of 2010, the Wildlife and Fisheries Commission was
considering action that would have extended the deer season into February, a month
traditionally reserved for small game hunting of rabbits and squirrel; and
WHEREAS, at the time, there was no organized group who could or would articulate
the concerns and perspective of rabbit and squirrel hunters, and who could tell the
commission what the impact of extending deer season would be on that segment of the
hunting public; and
WHEREAS, the Louisiana Rabbit Hunters Association was formed by a small group
of hunters to be the voice of rabbit hunters all over the state and has successfully articulated
their position relative to the protection and preservation of rabbit season before the
commission; and
WHEREAS, within six months of the creation of the Louisiana Rabbit Hunters
Association, the membership had grown from a very few members to over two hundred fifty
members across south Louisiana; and
WHEREAS, during 2011, the association has expanded its efforts into other parts of
Louisiana with chapters having been established in north and central Louisiana, all to give
a unified, coordinated, louder voice to rabbit hunters throughout the state; and ENROLLEDHCR NO. 20

hunters and to present a unified cohesive voice for rabbit hunters in the state of Louisiana.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be forwarded to the
