HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 5

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON
To commend the St. Augustine High School basketball team upon winning the 2011 Class
5A state championship.
WHEREAS, it is appropriate to commend the St. Augustine High School basketball
team upon the completion of a sensational 2010-2011 season and to congratulate the players
and coaches on winning the Class 5A state basketball championship for the fifth time in
school history; and
WHEREAS, the Purple Knights claimed the state championship title at the Lafayette
Cajundome on Saturday, March 12, 2011, by defeating the Scotlandville Hornets with a final
score of 67-43; and
WHEREAS, the members of the team performed at the highest level of excellence,
and each intrepid Purple Knight deserves recognition for his vital contribution to the winning
effort; and
WHEREAS, junior guard Javan Felix was voted Class 5A's Outstanding Player in
the Top 28; and
WHEREAS, Coach Cliff Barthe and his coaching staff have demonstrated the kind
of leadership and motivational skills needed to produce winners both on and off the court;
and
WHEREAS, the team's championship season upholds the glorious tradition of the
Purple Knights; and
WHEREAS, the St. Augustine High School basketball team merits a special measure
of commendation for the tremendous honor and pride that it brings to its school and
community, to the city of New Orleans, and to the state of Louisiana.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
commend the players and coaches of the St. Augustine High School basketball team for ENROLLEDHCR NO. 5

winning the 2011 Class 5A state championship, does hereby express sincere and heartfelt
congratulations to the Purple Knights in recognition of their outstanding athletic abilities and
their highly successful season, and does hereby extend best wishes for continued success in
the future.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
to the head coach of the St. Augustine High School basketball team.
