ENROLLED Page 1 of 2 First Extraordinary Session, 2011 HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 2 BY REPRESENTATIVE ROY A RESOLUTION To express the condolences of the House of Representatives upon the death of Mrs. Bernice Jones Cleveland. WHEREAS, on January 6, 2011, the state of Louisiana lost one of its most beloved citizens, Mrs. Bernice Jones Cleveland; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Bernice Jones Cleveland was born on October 30, 1926, the eighth child of the late Cardelia and Joseph Jones, Sr.; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Cleveland is survived by her husband of fifty-seven years, Mr. James (Ted) Floyd Cleveland; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Cleveland received her education in the Rapides Parish Public School system; and WHEREAS, for many decades, she worked for the Louisiana Head Start Program (Cenla Community Action Committee, Inc.), through the Bo Peep Head Start Center in Boyce, where she taught the three- and four-year old age groups; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Cleveland received numerous achievement awards as a head start teacher, such as the Excellence in Teaching award, the Excellence in Attendance award, and in August 2005, she was presented with a 40-Year Service Award; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Bernice Jones Cleveland served faithfully at the Good Hope Missionary Baptist Church and in May of 2009, she received the Christian Service award from the Louisiana Baptist State Convention; and WHEREAS, she sang in the Sanctuary choir, taught Sunday and vacation bible schools and worked with the youth department of the church until September 2005, when her health began to fail; and WHEREAS, even though her passing has left a deep void in the hearts of her family and friends, her love for and devotion to them will help them fill that void. ENROLLEDHR NO. 2 Page 2 of 2 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby express its heartfelt condolences to the family of Mrs. Bernice Jones Cleveland.
