SENATE BILL NO. 26
BY SENATOR WALSWORTH 
CENSUS. Provides relative to provisions in Title 33 which are limited in applicability to
political subdivisions or local areas meeting specified population characteristics pertaining
to the minimum monthly salary of firemen employed by the city of Bastrop.
AN ACT1
To amend and reenact the introductory paragraph of R.S. 33:1992(A), relative to provisions2
of Title 33 (Municipalities and Parishes) of the Louisiana Revised Statutes of 1950,3
which are limited in applicability to certain political subdivisions or local areas based4
upon population classifications; to specify applicability to the city of Bastrop of a5
provision relative to the minimum monthly salary of firemen; and to provide for6
related matters.7
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:8
Section 1.  The introductory paragraph of R.S. 33:1992(A) is hereby amended and9
reenacted to read as follows: 10
ยง1992. Minimum salaries11
A. The minimum monthly salaries of firemen in municipalities having a12
population of twelve thousand or more and in the city of Bastrop and of all parish13
and fire protection district paid firemen, including salaries payable out of the avails14
of any special tax provided by the Constitution of Louisiana for increasing the pay15
of firemen, shall be in accordance with the following schedule, and such salaries16
shall be paid semi-monthly not later than the fifth and twentieth day of each calendar17 SB NO. 26

Walsworth (SB 26)
Present law provides, with certain exceptions, a schedule of minimum monthly salaries of
firemen in municipalities having a population of 12,000 or more and all parish and fire
protection district paid firemen.  Specifically provides the following as minimum monthly
salaries:
(1)Firemen - $400.
(2)Engineers - not less than 10% above firemen.
(3)Lieutenants - not less than 15% above firemen.
(4)Captains - not less than 25% above firemen.
(5)Battalion chiefs and district chiefs - not less than 40% above firemen.
(6)Assistant chiefs and deputy chiefs - not less than 50% above firemen.
(7)Mechanic or assistant mechanic - not less than 25% above firemen.
(8)Superintendent of fire alarm system - not less than 40% above firemen.
(9)Fire alarm operator or dispatcher - not less than 25% above firemen.
(10)Fire inspector - not less than 25% above firemen.
Present law requires that such salaries be paid semi-monthly not later than the 5

day of each calendar month.
Proposed law retains present law and makes present law specifically applicable to the city
of Bastrop.
