Page 1 of 2 First Extraordinary Session, 2011 ENROLLED SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 6 BY SENATOR SMITH AND REPRESENTATIVES ARMES, HILL, DANAHAY AND GEYMANN A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON To commend Betty J. Cunningham for her twenty-nine years of dedicated public service as secretary-treasurer of the Beauregard Parish Police Jury and to congratulate her upon her retirement. WHEREAS, it is with great pride and admiration that the Legislature of Louisiana honors Betty J. Cunningham for her outstanding public service to the citizens of the parish of Beauregard and the southwestern portion of the state; and WHEREAS, since her employment in 1982, Betty J. Cunningham has served as a parish administrator, has overseen the financial management of the assets of the police jury, and has maintained the solvent fiscal health of parish government; and WHEREAS, under her watchful eye many vital public works projects have come to fruition including the airport's Air Flight Service Station, a new parish correctional facility, the Beauregard Parish Courthouse Annex, the Merryville Tourism Center, the Beauregard Parish Civic Center Arena, and the new Police Jury Administration Building; and WHEREAS, during her tenure as secretary-treasurer, Betty J. Cunningham has forged her years of institutional knowledge and experience and her "can do" attitude into a spotless record of sound fiscal responsibility; and WHEREAS, Betty Johnson was an academic who graduated fourth in her high school class; her outgoing nature and athletic abilities were evident in her extracurricular activities that included girls team sports and 4-H; and WHEREAS, she continued her educational pursuits at Northwestern State University, and after graduation was employed as a merchandise control supervisor at West Corporation, a clerk at Beauregard Memorial Hospital, and as an adult education teacher for the Beauregard Parish School Board; and SCR NO. 6 ENROLLED Page 2 of 2 WHEREAS, Betty Johnson married her husband, Ricky Cunningham, and their union was blessed with four children, four grandchildren, and a host of extended family and friends; and WHEREAS, Betty J. Cunningham has fostered an interest in many social, civic, and community-oriented organizations with membership in the Parent-Teacher Organization, Dixie Softball, the Beauregard Parish Tourist Commission, the Southwest Louisiana Partnership; an economic development collective which encompasses the parishes of Allen, Cameron, Calcasieu, Jefferson Davis, and Beauregard, the Research Conservation and Development Board, the Kiwanis, and the Organization of Parish Administrative Officials; and WHEREAS, Betty J. Cunningham is a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of DeRidder; and WHEREAS, Betty J. Cunningham has fulfilled a commitment to twenty-nine years of extraordinary public and community service that exemplifies all the admirable qualities of a proficient, parochial government administrator. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend and congratulate Betty J. Cunningham on the occasion of her retirement as secretary-treasurer of the Beauregard Parish Police Jury, March 25, 2011, and on her lifetime of good works and unselfish acts of public service and does hereby wish for her every success in her future endeavors.
