HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 141

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON
To recognize August 11, 2011, as Fibromyalgia Awareness Day in Louisiana.
WHEREAS, fibromyalgia is one of the most common chronic, widespread pain
conditions in the United States, affecting more than five million Americans; and
WHEREAS, the causes of fibromyalgia are still not fully known; and
WHEREAS, fibromyalgia is real and can have a debilitating effect on patients' lives,
taking an emotional, financial, and social toll, compromising their ability to work and engage
in daily activities, and affecting relationships with their families, friends, coworkers, and
community; and
WHEREAS, diagnosing fibromyalgia can be difficult, and many patients with
fibromyalgia consult multiple health care providers and suffer for as long as five years
before getting a correct diagnosis; and
WHEREAS, getting a correct diagnosis and being educated about fibromyalgia is the
first step toward better managing the disease; and
WHEREAS, increased awareness and expanded knowledge of the realities of life
with fibromyalgia will allow the community at large to better support patients and their
families, friends, coworkers, and employers who struggle with the challenges of this chronic
pain disorder; and
WHEREAS, we join with the National Fibromyalgia Association and other
fibromyalgia support organizations in promoting awareness and encouraging improved
education, diagnosis, research, and treatment.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
recognize August 11, 2011, as Fibromyalgia Awareness Day in Louisiana and encourage all
citizens of Louisiana to participate in appropriate fibromyalgia awareness activities. ENROLLEDHCR NO. 141

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be transmitted to the National
Fibromyalgia Association.
