HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 21
BY REPRESENTATIVE DANAHAY AND SENATOR SMI TH
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON
To commend the Starks High School girls' basketball team upon winning the 2011 Class C
state championship.
WHEREAS, the Starks High School girls' basketball team completed a sensational
season, earning the title of 2011 Class C state champions after defeating Plainview High
School by a score of 75-38 to win the thrilling state championship game at the University
Center at Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond, Louisiana; and
WHEREAS, the historic victory was the first state basketball championship for the
Panthers since winning the Class B championship in 1987 and was the culmination of an
unforgettable season; and
WHEREAS, the members of the team, Baleigh Bussell, Kaci Willis, Emily Ingalls,
Liegha Clark, Kassie Hyatt, Ciara Bussell, Sheramie Barlow, Lexie Cryer, Wendy Gillet,
Jade Berry, Megan Norwood, Hannah Ingalls, and Ashlynn Gibson, performed at the highest
level of excellence throughout the 2010-2011 season and playoffs, and each of these great
Panthers deserves recognition for her vital contribution to the winning effort; and
WHEREAS, the Panthers were led in their win by teammate Ciara Bussell, who was
named the Outstanding Player of the championship game; and
WHEREAS, the amazing accomplishments of the team could not have been achieved
without the guidance and skills of head coach Angie Willis and assistant coaches Carolyn
Givens and Wade Gillet as well as all of the other individuals who have contributed to the
success of the school's basketball program, including Taylor Ashworth, video; Icie Norris,
manager; principal Vickie Poole; and assistant principal Dale Dardeau; and
WHEREAS, all Starks High School alumni and fans recognize the immense pride
and distinguished honor that the Panthers' team brings to its school, community, and state. ENROLLEDHCR NO. 21

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
commend the Starks High School girls' basketball team upon winning the 2011 Class C state
championship and does hereby extend best wishes to the players, coaches, and everyone
involved with this fine basketball program as they celebrate their exceptional season and
prepare for continued success in the future.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
to Angie Willis, head coach of the Starks High School girls' basketball team.
