COMMENDATIONS: Commends Leontine Loretta White Washington upon the
celebration of her 80th birthday
A RESOLUTION1
To commend Leontine Loretta White Washington upon the celebration of her eightieth2
birthday.3
WHEREAS, it is appropriate to commend and congratulate Leontine Loretta White4
Washington upon the memorable and historic occasion of her eightieth birthday and to5
recognize her for her lifetime of commitment and devotion to her family and friends; and 6
WHEREAS, Mrs. Washington was born on June 27, 1931, in Plaquemine, Louisiana,7
to Charlie and Earnestine White; and8
WHEREAS, Mrs. Washington has touched the lives of many people, including her9
husband of fifty-six years, Willie Bert Washington, Sr.; her eight children, Gwen,10
Earnestine, Willie Bea, Patricia, Darlene, Willie, Jr., Edna, and Charlene; her ten11
grandchildren; and her twenty-four great-grandchildren; and12
WHEREAS, Mrs. Washington was educated in the public schools of Iberville Parish,13
graduated from Iberville High School in 1950, earned a bachelor of arts degree, master of14
arts degree, and thirty additional graduate credits from Southern University, and furthered15
her studies at Louisiana State University; and 16
WHEREAS, Mrs. Washington had a long, dedicated, and very effective career as an17
educator in the Iberville Parish School System for thirty-seven and a half years; and18
WHEREAS, a member of Mt. Cyrene Baptist Church, Mrs. Washington is a very19

fellow citizens and has served as a member and leader in numerous civic, professional, and1
church-related capacities; and 2
WHEREAS, for eighty years, Mrs. Washington has distinguished herself as an3
exemplary and highly admired citizen of Louisiana; and 4
WHEREAS, Mrs. Washington's fellow citizens hope that she is aware of how much5
pride and joy her long and wonderful life has brought to them; and6
WHEREAS, the success of the state of Louisiana, the strength of our communities,7
and the overall vitality of American society depend in great measure upon people like Mrs.8
Washington, an exceptional woman and an inspiration to all; and9
WHEREAS, Leontine Loretta White Washington merits a special measure of10
commendation for the tremendous pride and honor that she brings to the state of Louisiana11
and to all who know and love her.12
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the13
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Leontine Loretta White Washington upon14
the celebration of her eightieth birthday because she exemplifies all that is good about15
Louisiana, does hereby recognize and record for posterity the extraordinary life she has lived16
in the eight decades since her birth, does hereby express enduring gratitude for the singular17
contributions she has made to her family, friends, community, and state, and does hereby18
extend to her every good wish for health and happiness in the future.19
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted20
to Leontine Loretta White Washington.21
