HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 158
BY REPRESENTATIVE HARDY
A RESOLUTION
To commend Leontine Loretta White Washington upon the celebration of her eightieth
birthday.
WHEREAS, it is appropriate to commend and congratulate Leontine Loretta White
Washington upon the memorable and historic occasion of her eightieth birthday and to
recognize her for her lifetime of commitment and devotion to her family and friends; and 
WHEREAS, Mrs. Washington was born on June 27, 1931, in Plaquemine, Louisiana,
to Charlie and Earnestine White; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Washington has touched the lives of many people, including her
husband of fifty-six years, Willie Bert Washington, Sr.; her eight children, Gwen,
Earnestine, Willie Bea, Patricia, Darlene, Willie, Jr., Edna, and Charlene; her ten
grandchildren; and her twenty-four great-grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Washington was educated in the public schools of Iberville Parish,
graduated from Iberville High School in 1950, earned a bachelor of arts degree, master of
arts degree, and thirty additional graduate credits from Southern University, and furthered
her studies at Louisiana State University; and  
WHEREAS, Mrs. Washington had a long, dedicated, and very effective career as an
educator in the Iberville Parish School System for thirty-seven and a half years; and
WHEREAS, a member of Mt. Cyrene Baptist Church, Mrs. Washington is a very
active member of her community who is passionate about the service and education of her
fellow citizens and has served as a member and leader in numerous civic, professional, and
church-related capacities; and 
WHEREAS, for eighty years, Mrs. Washington has distinguished herself as an
exemplary and highly admired citizen of Louisiana; and  ENROLLEDHR NO. 158

WHEREAS, Mrs. Washington's fellow citizens hope that she is aware of how much
pride and joy her long and wonderful life has brought to them; and
WHEREAS, the success of the state of Louisiana, the strength of our communities,
and the overall vitality of American society depend in great measure upon people like Mrs.
Washington, an exceptional woman and an inspiration to all; and
WHEREAS, Leontine Loretta White Washington merits a special measure of
commendation for the tremendous pride and honor that she brings to the state of Louisiana
and to all who know and love her.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Leontine Loretta White Washington upon
the celebration of her eightieth birthday because she exemplifies all that is good about
Louisiana, does hereby recognize and record for posterity the extraordinary life she has lived
in the eight decades since her birth, does hereby express enduring gratitude for the singular
contributions she has made to her family, friends, community, and state, and does hereby
extend to her every good wish for health and happiness in the future.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
to Leontine Loretta White Washington.
