HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 52
BY REPRESENTATIVE ELLINGTON
SPECIAL DAY/WEEK/MONTH:  Recognizes June 1, 2011, as 4-H Day at the capitol
A RESOLUTION1
To recognize Wednesday, June 1, 2011, as 4-H Day at the Louisiana State Capitol and to2
commend 4-H members and volunteers throughout the state for their outstanding3
accomplishments and manifold contributions to their communities.4
WHEREAS, Louisiana 4-H is an educational program of the Louisiana State5
University AgCenter that can trace its roots back to the "Corn Club", which began in6
Avoyelles Parish in 1908; and 7
WHEREAS, through the 4-H organization, Louisiana's youth have been given the8
opportunity to participate in development and outreach programs which have evolved into9
three primary areas of focus: citizenship, healthy living and science, engineering and10
technology; and 11
WHEREAS, the 4-H pledge was adopted in 1927 and describes what the four "Hs"12
stand for: Head, Heart, Hand, and Health; and 13
WHEREAS, the 4-H club slogan, "Learn by doing", is put into practical application14
through a variety of research-based, educational activities on topics like aerospace, outdoor15
skills, animal science, nutrition, forestry, and community service; and 16
WHEREAS, 4-H participants improve their critical thinking and communication17
skills while preparing to become positive, productive, capable, and compassionate members18
of their communities; and19
WHEREAS, Louisiana 4-H programs continue to make a positive difference in the20
lives of young people by expanding leadership, citizenship, and life skills initiatives; and21 HLS 11RS-2318	ORIGINAL

WHEREAS, Louisiana is currently one of only a few states where 4-H is a1
cocurricular activity present in every parish; and2
WHEREAS, through its extraordinary record of research, education, youth3
development, and community service, Louisiana 4-H has long been an invaluable asset to4
the Louisiana State University AgCenter and the state of Louisiana.5
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the6
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby recognize Wednesday, June 1, 2011, as 4-H Day at the7
Louisiana State Capitol and does hereby commend 4-H members and volunteers throughout8
the state of Louisiana for their outstanding accomplishments and manifold contributions to9
their communities.10
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted11
to the state president of the Louisiana 4-H.12
