A RESOLUTION
To recognize Wednesday, June 1, 2011, as 4-H Day at the Louisiana State Capitol and to
commend 4-H members and volunteers throughout the state for their outstanding
accomplishments and manifold contributions to their communities.
WHEREAS, Louisiana 4-H is an educational program of the Louisiana State
University AgCenter that can trace its roots back to the "Corn Club", which began in
Avoyelles Parish in 1908; and 
WHEREAS, through the 4-H organization, Louisiana's youth have been given the
opportunity to participate in development and outreach programs which have evolved into
three primary areas of focus: citizenship, healthy living and science, engineering and
technology; and 
WHEREAS, the 4-H pledge was adopted in 1927 and describes what the four "Hs"
stand for: Head, Heart, Hand, and Health; and 
WHEREAS, the 4-H club slogan, "Learn by doing", is put into practical application
through a variety of research-based, educational activities on topics like aerospace, outdoor
skills, animal science, nutrition, forestry, and community service; and 
WHEREAS, 4-H participants improve their critical thinking and communication
skills while preparing to become positive, productive, capable, and compassionate members
of their communities; and
WHEREAS, Louisiana 4-H programs continue to make a positive difference in the
lives of young people by expanding leadership, citizenship, and life skills initiatives; and ENROLLEDHR NO. 52

WHEREAS, Louisiana is currently one of only a few states where 4-H is a
cocurricular activity present in every parish; and
WHEREAS, through its extraordinary record of research, education, youth
development, and community service, Louisiana 4-H has long been an invaluable asset to
the Louisiana State University AgCenter and the state of Louisiana.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby recognize Wednesday, June 1, 2011, as 4-H Day at the
Louisiana State Capitol and does hereby commend 4-H members and volunteers throughout
the state of Louisiana for their outstanding accomplishments and manifold contributions to
their communities.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
to the state president of the Louisiana 4-H.
