(8/15/11) AN ACT1 To amend and reenact R.S. 33:4580(B)(1)(b) and (3), relative to the Vernon Parish Arena2 District; to provide relative to governance; and to provide for related matters.3 Notice of intention to introduce this Act has been published.4 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:5 Section 1. R.S. 33:4580(B)(1)(b) and (3) are hereby amended and reenacted to read6 as follows: 7 ยง4580. Vernon Parish Arena District; creation; jurisdiction; purposes; board;8 powers9 * * *10 B.(1) The district shall be governed by a board of commissioners, hereby11 created and referred to as the "board". DIGEST Smith (SB 16) Present law provides for the appointment authority for the board of commissioners of the Vernon Parish Arena District as follows: (a)The president of the Vernon Parish Police Jury. (b)The mayor of Leesville. (c)Two members appointed by the Lions' Club of Vernon Parish. (d)One member appointed by the legislative delegation. Proposed law retains present law but removes the appointment authority given to the mayor of Leesville in favor of the president of the West Louisiana Forestry Board. Present law provides that the president of the police jury and the mayor of Leesville shall serve terms concurrent with that of their elected offices. The remaining members shall serve terms concurrent with the terms of the legislative delegation. Proposed law retains present law but changes the applicability of the term of office relating to the mayor of Leesville to the president of the West Louisiana Forestry Board.
