Allows a pharmacist to administer certain immunizations. (8/15/11) AN ACT1 To amend and reenact R.S. 37:1218, relative to the administration of certain immunizations;2 to provide for a pharmacist to administer certain immunizations; and to provide for3 related matters.4 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:5 Section 1. R.S. 37:1218 is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows: 6 ยง1218. Administration of influenza immunization certain immunizations7 A. A pharmacist may administer an influenza immunization certain8 immunizations, as provided for in Subsection B of this Section, to any person9 seven years of age or older without a prescription or medical order contingent upon10 all of the following provisions:11 (1) The pharmacist shall administer influenza immunizations each12 immunization in conformance with the most current annual influenza vaccination13 administration protocol as set forth by the United States Centers for Disease Control14 and Prevention (CDC) Public Health Service Advisory Committee on15 Immunization Practice Practices (ACIP) to participate in the program, and to be16 covered by the National Vaccine Injury Compensation Act.17 SB NO. 60 SLS 11RS-292 ORIGINAL Page 2 of 3 Coding: Words which are struck through are deletions from existing law; words in boldface type and underscored are additions. (2) The pharmacist shall report each influenza immunization to the Louisiana1 Office of Public Health Health's Louisiana Immunization Registry Network for2 Kids Statewide (LINKS) at the time of the immunization or as soon as reasonably3 practicable thereafter, as this is the official state vaccination record.4 (3) The pharmacist shall report all adverse events he observes or which are5 reported to him to the Vaccine Adverse Events Reporting System (VAERS), the6 cooperative program of the United States Centers for Disease Control and7 Prevention (CDC) and the United States Food and Drug Administration for vaccine8 safety, or its successor program; and further, the pharmacist shall refer the patient9 with an adverse event to the influenza an immunization for appropriate medical care.10 (4) The pharmacist shall maintain for at least two years a record of each11 influenza immunization administered.12 (5) The pharmacist shall obtain the appropriate credential to administer13 influenza immunizations from the board, as administratively defined, prior to14 administering any such immunization.15 B. A pharmacist may administer any of the following vaccines, but only16 in conformance with the provisions of Subsection A of this Section:17 (1) Influenza.18 (2) Pneumococcal.19 (3) Zoster.20 (4) Tetanus and Diptheria Toxoids Adsorbed for Adult Use (Td).21 (5) Tetanus Toxoid, Reduced Diptheria Toxoid and Acellular Pertussis22 Vaccine Adsorbed (Tdap).23 The original instrument and the following digest, which constitutes no part of the legislative instrument, were prepared by Greg Waddell.
