ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY.  Provides technical corrections to Title 30 of the Louisiana
Revised Statutes. (8/15/11)
AN ACT1
To amend and reenact Title 30 of the Louisiana Revised Statutes of 1950, comprised of R.S.2
30:3(1), relative to minerals, oil, gas, and environmental quality; and to provide for3
related matters.4
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:5
Section 1.  R.S. 30:3(1) is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows: 6
ยง3.  Definitions7
Unless the context otherwise requires, the words defined in this Section have8
the following meaning when found in this Chapter:9
(1) "Waste", in addition to its ordinary meaning, means "physical waste" as10
that term is generally understood in the oil and gas industry. It includes the11
following:12
(a)  the The inefficient, excessive, or improper use or dissipation of reservoir13
energy; and the location, spacing, drilling, equipping, operating, or producing of an14
oil or gas well in a manner which results, or tends to result, in reducing the quantity15
of oil or gas ultimately recoverable from a pool ; and.16
(b)  the The inefficient storing of oil; the producing of oil, or gas from a pool17 SB NO. 86

in excess of transportation or marketing facilities or of reasonable market demand;1
and the locating, spacing, drilling, equipping, operating, or producing of an oil or gas2
well in a manner causing, or tending to cause, unnecessary or excessive surface loss3
or destruction of oil or gas.4
(c)  the The disposal, storage, or injection of any waste product in the5
subsurface by means of a disposal well.6
