SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 71

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON
To commend the Martha Grand Chapter, Order of Eastern Star in honor of their annual
Grand Session to be held on June 26 through June 30, 2011, in New Orleans,
Louisiana.
WHEREAS, the Order of Eastern Star is the largest fraternal organization in the
world to which both women and men belong, with a worldwide membership of over one
million; and
WHEREAS, the social order of Eastern Star is comprised of persons with spiritual
values and has appeals that rests in the true beauty of refreshing and character-building
lessons that are sincerely portrayed in the Order's work; and
WHEREAS, a deep fraternal bond exists between members, with a wholesome
relationship of sisterly and brotherly love brought about through high principles exemplified
in the lives of its members; and
WHEREAS, the Order is composed of people who are of deep spiritual convictions,
and is open to all faiths, with a focus on the welfare of its members; and
WHEREAS, the Martha Grand Chapter, Order of Eastern Star was organized on
December 29, 1927, under the jurisdiction of the Supreme Council, Sovereign Grand
Inspector Generals thirty-third and Last Degree of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite
of Free Masonry for the Sovereign and Independent State of Louisiana, its Territories and
Dependences; and
WHEREAS, the emblem of the Order is a five point star with a white ray of the star
pointing toward the manger; and
WHEREAS, the character-building lessons taught in the Order are stories inspired
by biblical figures; and
WHEREAS, the Martha Grand Chapter is domiciled in New Orleans, Louisiana and
is a fraternal organization built on the principles of faith, hope, and love; and
WHEREAS, the Martha Grand Chapter holds its Grand Session annually, the
Monday after the fourth Sunday in June, at a place as designated by the Grand Chapter; and SCR NO. 71 ENROLLED

WHEREAS, the Martha Grand Chapter has subordinate chapters in Connecticut,
Rhode Island, Maryland, New York, North Carolina, Virginia, Washington, D.C.,
Washington, and Wisconsin; and
WHEREAS, past Grand Matrons of Martha Grand Chapter include sisters Lillian
Loeb, Kate Jones, Ethel D. Ford, Rose Mary Young and the present Grand Matron, Emeld
Keys; and
WHEREAS, past Grand Patrons include brothers Robert Coston, Theodore Williams,
Chester Lewis, Lawrence Blount and the present Grand Patron, Walter Evans, Jr.; and
WHEREAS, Sister Emeld M. Keys, Grand Worthy Matron of Martha Grand Chapter,
Order of Eastern Star, has called the Grand Session, Sunday, June 26, 2011, in a
Thanksgiving Service, at the New Zion Baptist Church in New Orleans, Louisiana where Dr.
C.S. Gordon, Jr., will deliver the sermon; and
WHEREAS, the business session will open at Doubletree Hotel in New Orleans,
Louisiana and will last through Wednesday, June 29, 2011, where the election of the grand
officers will be held; and
WHEREAS, on Thursday, June 30, 2011, the Grand Amaranth Court will open a
grand banquet and installation of grand officers.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
commend the Martha Grand Chapter, Order of Eastern Star in honor of their annual Grand
Session to be held on June 26 through June 30, 2011.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Sister
Emeld M. Keys, Grand Worthy Matron.
