SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 98

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON
To express the sincere and heartfelt condolences of the Legislature of Louisiana upon the
death of Arthur Wesley Eastman.
WHEREAS, it is with deep regret and profound sorrow that the members of the
Legislature of Louisiana learned of the death of Arthur Wesley Eastman, on Tuesday, June
14, 2011; and
WHEREAS, Arthur Wesley Eastman was a lifelong resident of Jennings; and
WHEREAS, Arthur Eastman's roots and passion ran deep in farming, family, and
service; and
WHEREAS, he was a proud veteran of the United State Navy, an active member of
American Legion Post 19, and member of the American Legion Hospital board of directors;
and
WHEREAS, he dedicated sixteen years of his life as a public servant serving on the
Jefferson Davis Parish Police Jury; and
WHEREAS, in addition to his public service, through the years, Arthur Eastman also
committed his time to The Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, the Knights of
Columbus Council 9110 of which he was charter member, and the Roanoke Rice Co-op; and
WHEREAS, Arthur Eastman loved children and he enriched the lives of so many as
driver of the "Airplane Bus" for many years; and
WHEREAS, Arthur Eastman loved nothing more than spending time with his family
and he also enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and spending time outdoors; and
WHEREAS, Arthur Eastman was the loving husband to his late wife of sixty-two
years, Alice, and his wife of one year, Elsie, and the proud father of his four children, twelve
grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and SCR NO. 98	ENROLLED

WHEREAS, upon his death the world lost a unique individual who left an indelible
mark upon the lives of all those who knew him; and
WHEREAS, with the death of Arthur Wesley Eastman, the state has lost one of her
finest sons; a man who loved God, his family, his country, and his state; a man who
considered himself ordinary, but dedicated his life to making the lives of other people just
a little better; and
WHEREAS, Arthur Eastman was the kind of person who represents what is good
about Louisiana, a man of wisdom who used his talents, integrity, and passion to change his
community and state for the better; and
WHEREAS, because of his numerous accomplishments in public and private life,
the death of Arthur Wesley Eastman, has left a void in his community and has created a
genuine sense of profound sorrow in his friends and family; and
WHEREAS, the memory of Arthur Wesley Eastman, will remain eternal in the hearts
and minds of his family, friends, and of all those who knew and loved him.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
express its sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the death of Arthur Wesley Eastman.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution shall be transmitted
to the family of Arthur Wesley Eastman.
