Page 1 of 3 Regular Session, 2011 ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 10 BY SENATORS THOMPSON, WALSWORTH, RI SER AND KOSTELKA A RESOLUTION To commend and congratulate Kelsi Crain on her reign as Miss Louisiana 2010, and to recognize Tuesday, May 3, 2011, as Miss Louisiana Organization Day in the Senate at the state capitol. WHEREAS, it is with great pride that the citizens of Louisiana recognize and honor Kelsi Crain, Miss Louisiana 2010; and WHEREAS, Kelsi Crain won the first pageant in which she ever competed, taking the title of Miss ULM 2010, which became her local title as she went on to compete for the first time for the title of Miss Louisiana 2010; and WHEREAS, Kelsi Crain competed with other talented and aspiring young women from across the state in Monroe, Louisiana, in June 2010 for the crown of Miss Louisiana, where she was selected by the pageant judges as Miss Louisiana 2010; and WHEREAS, Miss Kelsi Crain went on to compete nationally in the 2011 Miss America Pageant, in Las Vegas, Nevada, where she made Louisiana proud with her gracious poise and natural beauty as she performed flawlessly Ballet en Pointe in January 2011; and WHEREAS, Kelsi Crain is a graduate of Ouachita Parish High School and while she took the past year off from college to honor her commitment to Louisiana as an ambassador for our great state as Miss Louisiana 2010, her plans are to resume her educational pursuits as a junior studying Kinesiology (Pre-Physica l Therapy) at the University of Louisiana at Monroe (ULM) as she continues to serve as a positive role model; and WHEREAS, Miss Kelsi Crain has numerous honors and awards that include Alpha Lambda Delta, University of Louisiana Academic Scholarship, Thomas H. and Mayme P. Scott Foundation Scholarship, President's and Dean's List, Kinesiology Honor Society, Phi Epsilon Kappa, Louisiana Delta Ballet Leadership Council, Ouachita Parish High School SR NO. 10 ENROLLED Page 2 of 3 Student Body President, ULM Hometown Hawks, ULM Campus Activity Board, Association for Students in Kinesiology, Ouachita Parish's Junior Miss 2008, Preliminary Talent and Self Expression winner, First Runner-up to Louisiana's Junior Miss Scholarship Program, Missy Crain Dance Studios recipient of the Trina Award for two consecutive years, Future Looks Bright Award and Best All Around Award for leadership, dedication, and performance, Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizen Award, Lion Pride Award, the Louisiana TOPS Performance Award, and has been the recipient of numerous scholarships and been invited to many summer dance programs; she was Preliminary Talent, Swimsuit, and Ad Sales winner at the Miss ULM Pageant and won Miss ULM 2010, and Preliminary Swimsuit winner, People's Choice winner, and Newcomer Award winner, at the 2010 Miss Louisiana Pageant; and WHEREAS, Miss Crain has traveled throughout the state speaking out against drugs and peer pressure and performing her dance talent in schools as a voice and role model to the youth of Louisiana using her pageant platform, "Heart for the Arts", to focus on the power that the arts have to transform lives in a positive and rewarding manner; and WHEREAS, Miss Kelsi Crain has applied her many talents and skills to community service activities that include host and coordinator for benefit dance clinics "Kids 4 Kids" to raise money for the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals; has contributed, volunteered, and participated in A Princess Tea Party and numerous charity fashion shows, as well as a number of other activities to benefit various charity organizations; and served as a spokesperson for Louisiana Cares for Children and the Louisiana Governor's Council for Fitness and Sports, and participated in Louisiana World Peace Day at the state capitol, the theme of which was Artist as Peacemakers; and WHEREAS, as an accomplished dancer, she is a principal dancer with the Louisiana Delta Ballet; is a lifelong student of Missy Crain Dance Studios and currently serves on the faculty, while her extensive training also includes the Joffrey Ballet School Program; has had leading roles in numerous ballets, has performed nationwide as a soloist appearing with Regional Dance America; has studied with numerous famous choreographers such as John Magnus and Valerie Madonia; and has also performed in and hosted Dancing with the Louisiana Stars; and SR NO. 10 ENROLLED Page 3 of 3 WHEREAS, the success of the state of Louisiana, the strength of our communities, and the overall vitality of American society depend, in great measure, upon young people like Kelsi Crain who are positive role models providing inspiration and hope for Louisiana and America's youth to set high goals for themselves and work tirelessly to achieve them for a rewarding and bright future; and WHEREAS, Kelsi Crain, Miss Louisiana 2010, is to be commended and congratulated for her many accomplishments and for the tremendous honor she imparts to her family, community, and state as she has so graciously and actively represented her state both nationally and internationally. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend, congratulate and honor Kelsi Crain, Miss Louisiana 2010, for her numerous accomplishments and talents and does hereby extend its best wishes for continued success in all her future endeavors. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby recognize Tuesday, May 3, 2011, as Miss Louisiana Organization Day in the Senate at the state capitol.
