Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2011 ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 109 BY SENATOR QUINN A RESOLUTION To acknowledge the long and dedicated public and civic service of Ralph Clarence "R.C." McCormick to his community, state, and nation and to the Louisiana Real Estate Commission and to express the sincere condolences of the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana upon his death. WHEREAS, it is with great sadness that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana has learned of the passing of Ralph Clarence "R.C." McCormick, age eighty-one, on Monday, May 16, 2011; and WHEREAS, he retired from the United States Marine Corps with twenty-one years service with the rank of major in 1968 after being wounded in Vietnam, having been awarded the Legion of Merit with combat V device, Purple Heart and Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with gold star; and WHEREAS, upon returning to Baton Rouge, R.C. McCormick joined the Baton Rouge Police Department and the Capital District Law Enforcement Planning Council; and WHEREAS, after a run for the office of East Baton Rouge Parish sheriff, he served as chief criminal deputy sheriff under Sheriff J. Al Amiss; and WHEREAS, R.C. McCormick went to work for the Louisiana Real Estate Commission in 1986 as a hearing examiner, where he developed investigative and adjudicatory operating procedures, and tirelessly worked for the enhancement of the Real Estate and Appraiser industry in this state, continuing to provide counsel and assistance to the commission until his death; and WHEREAS, he was a former president of the Federation of Baton Rouge Civic Associations; and SR NO. 109 ENROLLED Page 2 of 2 WHEREAS, R.C. McCormick was a longtime member and supporter of Lions International, served on a local level in all areas of responsibility of Lions International in various positions, including president of his club and district governor of District 8N; was an avid fundraiser for Lions International and in particular, the Lions Crippled Children's Camp near Leesville; was a Melvin Jones Fellow, the highest recognition awarded by Lions International for lifelong service to the community; and was dedicated to and believed in the motto, "We serve"; and WHEREAS, he also enjoyed playing golf as often as he could with friends and family at Fairwood Country Club and later at the Oaks at Sherwood; and WHEREAS, R.C. McCormick was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Faye McCormick; sister, Charlotte Gumaer; and nephew, Larry Gumaer; and WHEREAS, he is survived by his wife of nearly fifty-nine years, Lucy Jane Smith McCormick; son, Michael McCormick and his wife, Evelyn; daughter, Kathy McCormick Kedroske and her husband, Kevin Kedroske; and three granddaughters, Emilee, Aimee and Kelli Kedroske; and WHEREAS, R.C. McCormick was always smiling, very upbeat, and never met a stranger, who touched many lives and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana hereby acknowledges the long and dedicated public and civic service to his community, state, and nation as well as to the Louisiana State Real Estate Commission, of Ralph Clarence "R.C." McCormick. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that sincere condolences are hereby extended to the family of R.C. McCormick on the occasion of his death.
