SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 112
BY SENATOR MILLS 
A RESOLUTION
To urge and request the Department of Economic Development to study the economic
impact on pharmacies owned and operated by Louisiana citizens from the use of out-
of-state pharmacy management companies by the state of Louisiana and its political
subdivisions.
WHEREAS, recent studies have indicated that patients prefer a face-to-face
relationship with their health care provider; and
WHEREAS, these studies have further indicated that patients consulting with their
pharmacist leads to improved health benefits and general cost savings of seventy-eight
percent; and 
WHEREAS, over one thousand two hundred pharmacies operate in Louisiana and
provide quality jobs to Louisiana citizens; and
WHEREAS, several health plans utilized by the state and its political subdivisions
appear to prefer out-of-state pharmacy management companies to pharmacies owned and
operated by Louisiana citizens to provide prescriptions to its policy holders; and
WHEREAS, many citizens are concerned that this preference for out-of-state
pharmacy management companies may cause undue harm to pharmacies owned and
operated by Louisiana citizens. 
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby urge and request the Department of Economic Development to study the
economic impact on pharmacies owned and operated by Louisiana citizens from the use of
out-of-state pharmacy management companies by the state of Louisiana and its political
subdivisions.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
secretary of the Department of Economic Development.
