SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 13
BY SENATOR WALSWORTH 
A RESOLUTION
To commend Brook Hotard on her reign as Miss Louisiana Outstanding Teen for 2010, and
to recognize Tuesday, May 26, 2011, as Miss Louisiana Organization Day at the
Louisiana Senate.
WHEREAS, in June 2010, Brook Hotard competed with many other accomplished
young women from across Louisiana and was crowned Miss Louisiana Outstanding Teen;
and
WHEREAS, in the year that followed, she represented her state at the national levels
as she spread increased awareness among Americans about the terrible effects that
Alzheimer's disease has on many of the elderly in our country; and
WHEREAS, Brook Hotard is a junior at St. Joseph's Academy in Baton Rouge which
is just across the Mississippi River from her home town of Port Allen, and she has excelled
there with a 4.3 GPA and is a member of the National Honor Society, the Honor Roll and
was a Middle School Honors Graduate at St. Aloysius School; and
WHEREAS, Brook has proved to be a real leader in her remarkable life, serving as
president of her school's Speech and Debate Team and participating in the 2009 National
Speech and Debate Competition; and
WHEREAS, Brook also found time to serve as vice president of her school's Drama
Club, president of the Spanish Club, Middle School Student Body President and a member
of the Girl Scouts; and
WHEREAS, during her reign as Miss Louisiana Outstanding Teen, Brook raised
funds for the Alzheimer's Association in "A Walk to Remember" and the "Fishing for
Memories" rodeo, while also finding time to visit "Children Miracle Network" hospitals,
speaking to Girl Scout troops, volunteering for Habitat for Humanity, raising funds for Child
Abuse Awareness, and serving as Grand Marshall of the Alexandria Children's Parade; and
WHEREAS, Brook's special entertainment talents helped her in the lead role in a
production of South Pacific, performing in To Kill A Mockingbird, Fiddler on the Roof, and
Music Man and choreographing musical numbers in the 2009 Miss Southeastern Pageant; SR NO. 13	ENROLLED

and
WHEREAS, Brook Hotard honors Louisiana in the Miss America Organization, the
world's largest competitive scholarship program for young women, helping the Miss
Louisiana Scholarship Organization raise six hundred thirty-four thousand dollars in cash
and tuition scholarships.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby extend its highest commendations to Brook Hotard, Miss Louisiana Outstanding
Teen for 2010, for her many accomplishments and talents and further wishes her continued
success in future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
hereby recognizes Tuesday, May 5, 2011, as Miss Louisiana Organization Day at the
Louisiana Senate.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
Brook Hotard.
