SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 138
BY SENATOR MARTINY 
A RESOLUTION
To commend the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) on
establishing a new Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), Oliver Pollock
Chapter in Kenner, Louisiana.
WHEREAS, in 1775, men and women of all social and economic classes came
together to begin fighting what has become known as the American Revolutionary War or
the American War of Independence; and
WHEREAS, Oliver Pollock, an American agent in Spanish New Orleans, was a
merchant prior to the American Revolutionary War and is attributed with the creation of the
United States dollar sign in 1778; and 
WHEREAS, Oliver Pollock has long been considered a historically undervalued
figure and forgotten founding father; and
WHEREAS, truly believing in the colonist cause, Oliver Pollock used his fortune to
finance American efforts in the Revolutionary War to the point his own funds and credit
were exhausted; and
WHEREAS, the descendants of patriots like Oliver Pollock have formed the National
Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, to celebrate the rich history and
economic, cultural, and societal impact of the American Revolutionary War; and
WHEREAS, the Louisiana Society Daughters of the American Revolution has since
its inception been dedicated to the conducting of historical, educational, and patriotic
activities while upholding their motto of God, Home, and Country; and
WHEREAS, such worthwhile activities include volunteer work at veterans' hospitals;
awards to outstanding students for scholarship and citizenship; scholarship awards in the
fields of nursing, occupational therapy, historical preservation, and American history; the SR NO. 138	ENROLLED

preservation and marking of historical sites in the state; the providing of information to new
citizens of the United States; and other educational activities including but not limited to
Constitution Week and American History Month; and
WHEREAS, through their important volunteer activities, sponsorships, ceremonies,
educational seminars, and other events, the members of this organization honor the sacrifices
of their ancestors and all soldiers and supporters of the American Revolutionary War; and
WHEREAS, twenty ladies have signed the report of organization for National
Society Daughters of the American Revolution which includes six ladies that could be
confirmed as new Daughters of the American Revolution members, plus an additional six
associate members from other DAR chapters who wish to attend and participate in the future
goals of this new DAR chapter, the Oliver Pollock Chapter in Kenner, Louisiana.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby recognize that on June 27, 2011, the Daughters of the American Revolution, will
officially confirm a new chapter to be domiciled in Kenner, Louisiana and does hereby
extend gratitude to these modern-day patriots for their important contributions to Louisiana
and the United States of America and wish them much success with their new chapter.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
Louisiana daughters of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution,
Oliver Pollock Chapter.
