SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 147

A RESOLUTION
To commend and congratulate Beauregard Parish Registrar of Voters Evelina Smith upon
her retirement on June 30, 2011.
WHEREAS, Evelina Smith began her public service in 1963, as an employee in the
Allen Parish Registrar of Voters office; and
WHEREAS, she moved to the Beauregard Parish Registrar of Voters office in 1971;
and
WHEREAS, Evelina Smith became the Beauregard Parish Registrar of Voters in
1983; and
WHEREAS, during her public service which spans six different decades, she has
assisted thousands of Louisiana citizens register to exercise their privilege to vote in
countless elections; and
WHEREAS, she is the loving, caring, dedicated wife of Leonard Smith for almost
fifty years; and
WHEREAS, Evelina Smith is very proud of her three children and five
grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, as an active member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in DeRidder and
past member of the Parish Council, she was recognized as the Evangelizer of the Year by
the Bishop of the Lake Charles Diocese in 1998; and
WHEREAS, Evelina Smith has volunteered much of her time to the Beauregard
Association of Retarded Citizens; and
WHEREAS, her lifetime of public service, dedication to family, community, and
faith is an example to others.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby commend and congratulate Beauregard Parish Registrar of Voters Evelina
Smith upon her retirement. SR NO. 147 ENROLLED

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
Beauregard Parish Registrar of Voters Evelina Smith.
