Page 1 of 1 Regular Session, 2011 ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 159 BY SENATOR MILLS A RESOLUTION To commend Therese Segura and Freddie DeCourt on their service to the New Iberia City Council. WHEREAS, the town of New Iberia dates back to the Spring of 1779, when a group of five hundred Malaguenian colonists and Bernardo de Galvez traveled up Bayou Teche and settled around Spanish Lake; and WHEREAS, the town was incorporated in 1839 as Iberia, and in 1947, the legislature renamed the town New Iberia; and WHEREAS, as members of the New Iberia City Council, Therese Segura and Freddie DeCourt have contributed countless hours toward the preservation of New Iberia's culture and unique heritage; and WHEREAS, their tireless efforts on behalf of New Iberia and Iberia Parish have ensured continued economic growth in the area; and WHEREAS, their leadership on behalf of the area has led to an increase in tourism and their service toward this end continues to elevate Iberia Parish to being one of the premier tourist destinations in Louisiana; and WHEREAS, the citizens of New Iberia and Iberia Parish will forever be grateful for the time, energy, and commitment Therese Segura and Freddie DeCourt have tirelessly contributed to the community. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Therese Segura and Freddie DeCourt for their years of distinguished service on the New Iberia City Council and their leadership and dedication to making their community and state a better place to live. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Therese Segura and Freddie DeCourt. PRESIDENT OF THE SENATE
