SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 163
BY SENATOR WILLARD-LEWIS
TRANSPORTATION/DEV DEPT. Requests DOTD, the Department of Wildlife and
Fisheries, and the city of New Orleans to expedite planning and construction of a fishing pier
on the south shore of Lake Pontchartrain near the Highway 11 bridge.
A RESOLUTION1
To urge and request the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development, the2
Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries and the city of New Orleans to3
expedite and implement a project to establish a fishing pier near the Highway 114
bridge.5
WHEREAS, the Twin Span portion of Interstate Highway 10 across the Rigalies was6
destroyed by Hurricane Katrina in 2005; and7
WHEREAS, there are plans for the debris from that portion of this highway to be8
used as a breakwater to assist in the construction of a fishing pier to the west of the existing9
Highway 11 bridge; and10
WHEREAS, the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development, the11
Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, and the city of New Orleans are in the12
process of planning the construction of this fishing pier for public use; and13
WHEREAS, the planning and implementation of this project should be expedited in14
order to provide a recreational venue for all citizens desiring to fish in the waters of our15
state.16
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana17
does hereby urge and request the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development,18 SR NO. 163

the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, and the city of New Orleans to expedite1
the planning and construction of a fishing pier near the Highway 11 bridge thereby providing2
a viable venue for recreational fishing on the south shore of Lake Pontchartrain.3
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be delivered to the4
secretary of the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development, the secretary of5
the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, and the mayor of the city of New6
Orleans.7
