SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 163

A RESOLUTION
To urge and request the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development, the
Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries and the city of New Orleans to
expedite and implement a project to establish a fishing pier near the Highway 11
bridge.
WHEREAS, the Twin Span portion of Interstate Highway 10 across the Rigolets was
destroyed by Hurricane Katrina in 2005; and
WHEREAS, there are plans for the debris from that portion of this highway to be
used as a breakwater to assist in the construction of a fishing pier to the west of the existing
Highway 11 bridge; and
WHEREAS, the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development, the
Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, and the city of New Orleans are in the
process of planning the construction of this fishing pier for public use; and
WHEREAS, the planning and implementation of this project should be expedited in
order to provide a recreational venue for all citizens desiring to fish in the waters of our
state.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby urge and request the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development,
the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, and the city of New Orleans to expedite
the planning and construction of a fishing pier near the Highway 11 bridge thereby providing
a viable venue for recreational fishing on the south shore of Lake Pontchartrain.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be delivered to the
secretary of the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development, the secretary of
the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, and the mayor of the city of New
Orleans.
