SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 32
BY SENATORS WALSWORTH AND THOMPSON 
A RESOLUTION
To express the sincere condolences of the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana upon the
death of Neville High Football Coach Charlie Brown.
WHEREAS, Coach Charlie Brown coached the Neville High School football team
for thirty seasons, leading his players to three state championship titles and three other
championship games; and
WHEREAS, Coach Brown would take his beloved Tiger football team to eleven
district crowns as head coach; and
WHEREAS, Coach Brown served twelve years as an assistant coach to another
legendary coach, Bill Ruple, playing a major role as the Tigers won four more state titles;
and
WHEREAS, Coach Brown compiled a record as Tiger head coach of 236-66-6,
making him the all-time sixth most winning coach in the state of Louisiana and cementing
his place in Louisiana sports history; and
WHEREAS, Coach Brown possessed such unique athletic talents that he also led the
Neville High School Tiger Baseball Team to an incredible four state titles as their head
coach; and
WHEREAS, Coach Brown would ultimately be inducted into the Louisiana High
School Sports Hall of Fame in 1987 and the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame in 2001, after a
career that spanned from 1963 to 1992; and
WHEREAS, Coach Brown would also be inducted into the Louisiana Sportswriters
Hall of Fame in 2001; and
WHEREAS, in his forty-three years of close association with the Neville High
School community, Coach Brown truly had a powerful and positive influence on athletics
in Northeast Louisiana; and SR NO. 32	ENROLLED

WHEREAS, a new football field house being built at Neville High School will be
named in honor of Coach Brown; and
WHEREAS, Coach Brown trained and prepared hundreds of football players who
would go on to greatness in the college and professional ranks, thanks to his dedication and
concern as their coach.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby recognize Neville High School Football Coach Charlie Brown for his gridiron
greatness and extends its deepest condolences to his family, friends, loved ones and players
for the loss of such a giant.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
family of Coach Charlie Brown and to Neville High School.
