Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2011 ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 39 BY SENATORS MARIONNEAUX, ADLEY, ALARIO, AMEDEE, APPEL, BROOME, CHABERT, CHAISSON, CHEEK, CLAITOR, CROWE, DONAHUE, DORSEY, ERDEY, GAUTREAUX, GUILLORY, HEITMEIER, JACKSON, KOSTELKA, LAFLEUR, LONG, MARTINY, MCPHERSON, MICHOT, MILLS, MORRELL, MORRISH, MOUNT, MURRAY, NEVERS, PERRY, PETERSON, QUINN, RISER, SHAW, SMITH, THOMPSON, WALSWORTH AND WILLARD-LEWIS AND A RESOLUTION To express the sincere and heartfelt condolences of the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana to the family Louisiana Army National Guardsman Private First Class Bryant Haynes upon his death in Operation Iraqi Freedom. WHEREAS, Bryant Haynes was a native of Epps, Louisiana, and attended Ouachita Parish High School where his unique athletic abilities helped him earn a position on the football team as a wide receiver; and WHEREAS, he left high school before graduating in order to join the military, and later attended Southeastern Oklahoma State University in pursuit of a criminal justice degree; and WHEREAS, Bryant was also a member of the St. John Baptist Church where he and his fiancee attended services; and WHEREAS, Private First Class Haynes, after his basic and advanced training, was assigned to the 199 th Support Battalion of the Louisiana Army National Guard operating out of Alexandria, Louisiana; and WHEREAS, when the 256 TH Brigade Combat Team deployed to Iraq in 2010, Private First Class Haynes and the soldiers of his unit deployed with the brigade with the mission of supporting the infantry operations of the team in the theater; and WHEREAS, Private First Class Haynes was twenty-one years old and engaged in a mounted operation in Al Diwaniyah, Iraq, on June 26, 2010, when the vehicle in which he was traveling was involved in a roll-over incident; and WHEREAS, Private First Class Haynes was mortally injured in the crash and died from the wounds he sustained; and SR NO. 39 ENROLLED Page 2 of 2 WHEREAS, Private First Class Haynes' awards and decorations include the Humanitarian Service Ribbon, the Army Service Ribbon, the Armed Forces Reserve Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Iraq Campaign Medal with Campaign Star, the Overseas Service Ribbon, the Louisiana War Cross, and the Louisiana Emergency Service Overseas Service Bar; and WHEREAS, Private First Class Haynes was a member of a large family, including nine brothers, four sisters, and his mother and father; and WHEREAS, while Private First Class Haynes family, friends, and loved ones were all shaken by his loss, they were also filled with the pride of knowing a young man who was a true Christian, a fine citizen, and an outstanding soldier who took much satisfaction from serving his country. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby extend its deepest and most sincere condolences to the family of Louisiana Army National Guard Private First Class Bryant Haynes for their tragic loss and his great sacrifice. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the family of Louisiana Army National Guard Private First Class Bryant Haynes. PRESIDENT OF THE SENATE
