SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 74
BY SENATORS MCPHERSON, ADLEY, ALARI O, AMEDEE, APPEL, BROOME,
CHABERT, CHAISSON, CHEEK, CLAITOR, CROWE, DONAHUE,
DORSEY, ERDEY, GAUTREAUX, GUILLORY, HEITMEIER,
JACKSON, KOSTELKA, LAFLEUR, LONG, MARIONNEAUX,
MARTINY, MICHOT, MILLS, MORRELL, MORRISH, MOUNT,
MURRAY, NEVERS, PERRY, PETERSON, QUINN, RISER, SHAW,
SMITH, THOMPSON, WALSWORTH AND WILLARD-LEWIS 
A RESOLUTION
To commend Michael Howard Madison on his retirement from Cleco Corporation.
WHEREAS, on April 25, 2011, Michael Howard Madison announced his planned
retirement from Cleco Corporation; and
WHEREAS, his career has spanned forty years in the electric power industry; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Madison worked as an electrician to put himself through college
and graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1971; and
WHEREAS, after graduating, he worked in various positions for Public Service
Oklahoma and its sister company, Southwest Electric Power Company; and
WHEREAS, prior to working for Cleco Corporation in 2003, he served as the state
president for American Electric Power; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Madison became president and chief executive officer of Cleco
Corporation in 2005; and
WHEREAS, as president, he worked to build a stronger utility company and
proposed a new solid-fuel generating unit near Boyce; and
WHEREAS, during his years with Cleco Corporation, the stock price grew seventy-
one percent even as it weathered four major hurricanes; and
WHEREAS, his other accomplishments include completion of the six hundred
megawatt Madison Unit 3, completion of a black start generating unit in Baldwin,
acquisition of Acadia Unit 1, the sale of Acadia Unit 2, and implementation of major
transmission system improvements in south Louisiana; and SR NO. 74	ENROLLED

WHEREAS, in addition to his corporate accomplishments, Mr. Madison has been
an active board member for the Association of Edison Illuminating Companies, the Better
Business Bureau, Capital One Bank, Cenla Advantage Partnership, Central Louisiana
Economic Development Alliance, Christus St. Frances Cabrini Hospital, Council for a Better
Louisiana, the Governor's Advisory Commission on Coastal Protection, Restoration and
Conservation, the Louisiana State University at Alexandria Foundation, the Public Affairs
Research Council, the Shreveport Chamber of Commerce, and West Texas Utilities; and
WHEREAS, although he is retiring, his impact on the electrical power industry will
continue for many years to come and he will be truly missed; and
WHEREAS, Michael Howard Madison merits a special measure of commendation
for the tremendous honor and pride that he brings to his family, friends, community, and the
state of Louisiana.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby acknowledge with gratitude and commend Mr. Michael Howard Madison for
his outstanding service and dedication of forty years to the electric power industry and
congratulates and wishes him well on the occasion of his retirement.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
Michael Howard Madison.
