SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 88
BY SENATORS CHAISSON, ADLEY, ALARIO, AMEDEE, APPEL, BROOME,
CHABERT, CHEEK, CLAITOR, CROWE, DONAHUE, DORSEY,
ERDEY, GAUTREAUX, GUILLORY, HEITMEIER, JACKSON,
KOSTELKA, LAFLEUR, LONG, MARIONNEAUX, MARTI NY,
MCPHERSON, MICHOT, MILLS, MORRELL, MORRISH, MOUNT,
MURRAY, NEVERS, PERRY, PETERSON, QUINN, RISER, SMITH,
THOMPSON, WALSWORTH, WI LLARD-LEWIS AND SHAW 
A RESOLUTION
To commend the Honorable B. L. "Buddy" Shaw for his leadership during many years of
service in the Legislature of Louisiana and to recognize his many significant
achievements and contributions to the legislative institution, his country, his district,
and the people of the state of Louisiana.
WHEREAS, after representing Senate District 37 and House District 6, Senator
Buddy Shaw will retire from the Senate when the term officially ends in January 2012; and
WHEREAS, after graduating from Jamestown High School, he served in the United
States Army and received a bachelor's and master's degree from Northwestern State
University, after which he continued his studies at Louisiana State University and obtained
a doctor of education; and
WHEREAS, Buddy Shaw has had a lengthy and distinguished career as an educator,
first as a teacher at Hamilton Parish Junior High School, then as Assistant Principal at
Lakeshore and Youree Drive Junior High School, Principal at C.E. Byrd High School from
1970 to 1986, and Superintendent for Vocational Education for the Caddo Parish School
System; and
WHEREAS, he began his career in public service as a member of the Caddo Parish
School Board, where he served from 1987 to 1994, including as President in 1993; and
WHEREAS, Buddy Shaw began his distinguished service in the Louisiana
Legislature when he was elected to serve the people of District 6 in the House of
Representatives, where he served for two terms from 1996 until 2004; and
WHEREAS, he returned to the legislature in 2008, when he was chosen to serve the
people of District 37 in the Senate, where he has been determined to help Louisiana work
toward changing its image through statesmanship rather than political expediency; and SR NO. 88	ENROLLED

WHEREAS, Senator Shaw has worked diligently to reform Louisiana's tax code,
including the repeal of the Stelly Tax, and has been committed to ethics reform, fiscal
discipline, and economic development, including the Air Force Cyber Command Center, the
completion of the I-49 corridor, and an additional span to the Jimmy Davis Bridge; and
WHEREAS, he currently serves on the revenue and fiscal affairs and transportation
committees, and is vice chair of the Senate Committee on Environmental Quality; and
WHEREAS, although public service and civic activities have kept Senator Shaw
busy, he has always ensured that his family comes first, especially his loving and supportive
wife, Mary Ann; and
WHEREAS, always representing the balance and the best interests of the people in
his district, Buddy Shaw has been considered a fair-minded, trusted legislator and it is
appropriate that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana recognize his numerous
accomplishments as his term of legislative service concludes.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana,
and the friends and colleagues of Senator B. L. "Buddy" Shaw do hereby honor and
commend him for his leadership during many years of distinguished service in the
Legislature of Louisiana and recognize his many significant achievements and contributions
to the legislative institution, his country, his legislative district, and the people of the state
of Louisiana.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
Honorable B.L. "Buddy" Shaw, State Senator, District 37.
