Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2011 ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 89 BY SENATORS CHAISSON, ADLEY, ALARIO, AMEDEE, APPEL, BROOME, CHABERT, CHEEK, CLAITOR, CROWE, DONAHUE, DORSEY, ERDEY, GAUTREAUX, GUILLORY, HEITMEIER, JACKSON, KOSTELKA, LAFLEUR, LONG, MARIONNEAUX, MARTI NY, MCPHERSON, MICHOT, MILLS, MORRELL, MORRISH, MOUNT, MURRAY, NEVERS, PERRY, PETERSON, RISER, SHAW, SMITH, THOMPSON, WALSWORTH AND WILLARD-LEWIS A RESOLUTION To commend the Honorable Julie Quinn and to express enduring gratitude for her outstanding contributions to the people of Senate District 6 and the state of Louisiana, particularly during her tenure as a distinguished member of the Louisiana Legislature. WHEREAS, an outstanding student, Julie Quinn is a graduate of Slidell High School, then went on to receive a degree from Louisiana State University before pursuing a law degree from Loyola Law School, where she graduated at the top of her class and served on the Moot Court and as a board member of the Loyola Law Review and was twice named a teaching assistant in legal research and writing; and WHEREAS, although she began a private practice as an attorney after graduating from law school, she never lost sight of the importance of providing quality education to the children of this state, and thus began her distinguished career in public service when she was elected to the Jefferson Parish School Board, where she served four years; WHEREAS, in July 2005, Julie Quinn was chosen by the people to represent them as the District 6 State Senator during a special election, and she has proven herself a champion of the people, earning recognition as "Legislator of the Year" by the United States Humane Society, the Louisiana Childcare Association, the Louisiana Orthopedic Association, the Louisiana Chiropractic Association, the Louisiana Nurse Anesthetists, and has been named into the Louisiana Family Forum's Hall of Fame for her pro-family voting record; and SR NO. 89 ENROLLED Page 2 of 2 WHEREAS, a leading advocate for Louisiana's children and families, and a vigorous proponent of insurance reform, particularly in helping the victims of Hurricane Katrina, she serves on the Senate insurance and education committees, and as chairman of the Senate Judiciary A Committee, as well as the Judicial Council, Law Institute, the Select Committee on Technology, and the Select Committee for Women and Children; and WHEREAS, although she is a committed public servant, she is first and foremost the loving and proud mother of two sons, and devotes all her free time to her children; and WHEREAS, as she prepares to begin the next exciting and productive chapter of her life, Senator Quinn merits a sincere measure of commendation for her singular contributions and the exemplary strides she has taken as an exceptional member of the Louisiana Legislature. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the Honorable Julie Quinn and express enduring gratitude for her outstanding contributions to Orleans, Jefferson, St. Tammany, and Tangipahoa parishes and the state of Louisiana.
