SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 9
BY SENATORS DONAHUE AND NEVERS 
A RESOLUTION
To commend St. Paul's School in Covington, Louisiana, upon celebrating its one hundredth
year anniversary.
WHEREAS, in 1509, founder John Colet established a new school to be an inclusive
meritocracy in which boys from all nations and countries would be educated, without regard
to means or race; and
WHEREAS, St. Paul's School is a unique blend of modern and traditional values,
diversity of background and continuity of care, and holds a high tolerance and capacity for
creative debate; and
WHEREAS, the pupils of St. Paul graduate as young men of principle, spirit and
imagination; and
WHEREAS, Principal, Brother Ray Bulliard, has several aims for the school
including taking a leading role in education, retaining the best of traditional academic
education, and seeking to use the school's independence and status to innovate and to lead;
and
WHEREAS, to have a needs-blind entry, St. Paul aspires to become the first leading
academic school in the country to adopt this approach, welcoming gifted young pupils
regardless of economic background; and
WHEREAS, this Catholic school for boys has taught the Gospel of Jesus Christ to
students in a Lasallian, Christ-centered environment of caring discipline, while fostering
high academic standards and encouraging community involvement for one hundred years;
and
WHEREAS, the tradition of a Lasallian education is rooted in five core principles
including faith in the presence of God, concern for the poor and social injustice, quality
education, inclusive community, and respect for all persons; and
WHEREAS, these principles are fostered in every Lasallian institution worldwide;

WHEREAS, the Christian Brothers of St. Paul's School are assisted by more than
seventy-three thousand law colleagues, and teach over nine hundred thousand students in
eighty countries; and
WHEREAS, each St. Paul's School student comes to prayer in the same way,
reciting, let us remember that we are in the holy presence of God, and closes prayer with the
call and response, St. John Baptist de la Salle, pray for us. Live Jesus in our hearts, forever;
and
WHEREAS, St. Paul's School strives to provide inspirational teaching, to continue
providing outstanding pastoral care, to commit to community service, and to construct an
inspirational physical environment; and
WHEREAS, central to the aims and ethos of St. Paul's School is the realization that
what a young man does in and outside the classroom can inform, influence, and change his
life.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby commend St. Paul's School in Covington, Louisiana, upon celebrating its one
hundredth year anniversary.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
Principal, Brother Ray Bulliard.
