Regular Session, 2012 HOUSE BILL NO. 52 BY REPRESENTATIVE LEGER RETIREMENT/LOCAL: Provides relative to the Firefighters' Pension and Relief Fund in the city of New Orleans AN ACT1 To amend and reenact R.S. 11:3363(B), relative to the Firefighters' Pension and Relief Fund2 in the city of New Orleans; to provide for the applicability of certain provisions3 relative to the assessment of members; and to provide for related matters.4 Notice of intention to introduce this Act has been published5 as provided by Article III, Section 13 and Article X, Section6 29(C) of the Constitution of Louisiana.7 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:8 Section 1. R.S. 11:3363(B) is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows: 9 ยง3363. Powers of board; assessment of members; determination of applications for10 benefits11 * * *12 B. The board shall assess each member of the fire department not less than13 six percent of his salary, to be deducted monthly, the same to be placed by the14 secretary-treasurer to the credit of the fund subject to the orders of the board. Present law provides for a pension and relief fund for firefighters in the City of New Orleans. Provides for a board of trustees to control and manage the fund. Provides that the board shall assess each member of the fire department not less than 6% of his salary, to be deducted monthly. Proposed law retains present law. Present law provides that any member who has accrued 20 years of service shall no longer have the 6% salary deductions collected monthly out of his salary nor shall he be liable therefor. Proposed law repeals present law. (Amends R.S. 11:3363(B))
