SCHOOLS:  Requires BESE to provide for a social services program in all public schools
AN ACT1
To enact R.S. 17:7(33), relative to the powers and duties of the State Board of Elementary2
and Secondary Education; to require the board to develop, adopt, and provide for the3
implementation of a social services program in public schools; to provide for the4
training and placement of social services advisors in each school; and to provide for5
related matters.6
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:7
Section 1.  R.S. 17:7(33) is hereby enacted to read as follows: 8
ยง7.  Duties, functions, and responsibilities of board9
In addition to the authorities granted by R.S. 17:6 and any powers, duties, and10
responsibilities vested by any other applicable laws, the board shall:11

(33) Develop, adopt, and provide for the implementation of a social services13
program for use in all public elementary and secondary schools. The program shall14
provide for the training and placement of social services advisors in each school for15

Abstract: Requires BESE to develop, adopt, and provide for the implementation of a social
services program in public schools and provides for the training and placement of
social services advisors in each school.
Present law provides for the powers and duties of the State Board of Elementary and
Secondary Education (BESE). Proposed law adds to present law a requirement that BESE
develop, adopt, and provide for the implementation of a social services program for use in
all public elementary and secondary schools.  Specifies that the program shall provide for
the training and placement of social services advisors in each school for the purpose of
providing counseling to students and parents.
