AN ACT1
To amend and reenact R.S. 13:477(24) and 621.24, relative to the Twenty-Fourth Judicial2
District; to provide for election sections for the Twenty-Fourth Judicial District; to3
provide for the assignment of judgeships for election purposes; to provide for the4
election of judges; to provide for effectiveness; and to provide for related matters.5
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:6
Section 1. R.S. 13:477(24) and 621.24 are hereby amended and reenacted to read as7
follows:8
§477.  Judicial districts9
There shall be forty-two judicial districts in the state, and each district shall10
be composed as follows:11

(24) The parish of Jefferson shall compose the Twenty-Fourth District.  	The13
Twenty-Fourth District shall consist of three election sections. Election section one14
shall consist of Precincts 170, 171, 172, 174, 175, 176, 177, 178, 182, 183, 184,15
185A, 185B, 189, 190, 191, 192, 193, 194A, 194B, 195, 196, 197A, 197B, 197C,16
198, 199, 202, 203, 204, 205, 210, 211, 212A, 212B, 213A, 213B, 213C, 214A,17
214B, 215, 216A, 216B, 217, 225, 226, 227, 228, 229, 230, 231, 232A, 232B, 234,18
235, 236, 237, 238, 246, 247, 248, 1-G, 2-G, 3-G, 4-G, 5-G, 6-G, 7-G, 8-G, 9-G,19
10-G, 11-G, 12-G, 13-G, 1-GI, 1-L, 1-W, 4-W, 5-W, 6-W, and 7-W of Jefferson20
Parish. Election section two shall consist of Precincts 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12,21

Jefferson Parish.9

§621.24.  Twenty-Fourth Judicial District 11
The Twenty-Fourth Judicial District shall have sixteen judges.  Four judges,12
Divisions E, J, M, and O, shall be elected from election section one; nine judges,13
Divisions A, B, D, F, H, I, K, L, and N, shall be elected from election section two;14
and three judges, Divisions C, G, and P, shall be elected from election section three.15
Section 2.(A)  The precincts referenced in this Act are those precincts identified as16
Voting Districts (VTDs) in the 2010 Census Redistricting TIGER/Line Shapefiles for the17
State of Louisiana.18
(B) When a precinct referenced in this Act has been subdivided by action of the19
parish governing authority on a nongeographic basis or subdivided by action of the parish20
governing authority on a geographic basis in accordance with the provisions of R.S.21
18:532.1, the enumeration in this Act of the general precinct designation shall include all22
nongeographic and all geographic subdivisions thereof, however such subdivisions may be23
designated. The territorial limits of the election sections as provided in this Act shall24
continue in effect without change regardless of any changes made to the precincts by the25
parish governing authority.26
Section 3.(A) Section 1 of this Act shall become effective solely for the purposes of27
qualifying and election of judges to the Twenty-Fourth Judicial District at the regularly28
scheduled elections in 2014, upon signature of this Act by the governor or, if not signed by29
the governor, upon expiration of the time for bills to become law without signature by the30 ENROLLEDHB NO. 767

governor, as provided in Article III, Section 18 of the Constitution of Louisiana. If this Act1
is vetoed by the governor and subsequently approved by the legislature, Section 1 of this Act2
shall become effective for such purposes on the day following such approval.  The3
provisions of Section 1 of this Act shall become effective for all other purposes on January4
1, 2015.5
(B) This Section and Section 2 of this Act shall become effective upon signature of6
this Act by the governor or, if not signed by the governor, upon expiration of the time for7
bills to become law without signature by the governor, as provided by Article III, Section8
18 of the Constitution of Louisiana. If this Act is vetoed by the governor and subsequently9
approved by the legislature, this Section and Section 2 of this Act shall become effective on10
the day following such approval.11
