CONTRACTORS: Exempts certain contractors licensed by the state fire marshal from the
definition of electrical contractor
AN ACT1
To amend and reenact R.S. 37:2150.1(4.1), relative to contractors; to exempt life safety and2
property protection contractors licensed by the state fire marshal from the definition3
of electrical contractor; and to provide for related matters.4
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:5
Section 1. R.S. 37:2150.1(4.1) is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows:6
ยง2150.1.  Definitions7
As used in this Chapter, the following words and phrases shall be defined as8
follows:9

(4.1) "Electrical contractor" means any person who undertakes to, attempts11
to, or submits a price or bid or offers to construct, supervise, superintend, oversee,12
direct, or in any manner assume charge of the construction, alteration, repair,13
improvement, movement, demolition, putting up, tearing down, or furnishing labor14
together with material and equipment, or installing the same for the wiring, fixtures,15
or appliances for the supply of electricity to any residential, commercial, or other16
project, when the cost of the undertaking exceeds the sum of ten thousand dollars.17
"Electrical contractor" shall not include any person performing life safety and18
property protection contracting pursuant to a life safety and property protection19

construed to limit the authority of a contractor, general contractor, or residential1
building contractor, as those terms are defined in this Section, nor to require such2
individuals to become an electrical contractor.3

Abstract: Exempts life safety and property protection contractors licensed by the state fire
marshal from the definition of electrical contractor.
Present law defines "electrical contractor".
Proposed law exempts any person performing life safety and property protection contracting
pursuant to a life safety and property protection license issued by the state fire marshal from
the definition of "electrical contractor".
