WEAPONS/HANDGUNS:  Amends concealed weapons provisions with respect to
correctional officers
AN ACT1
To amend and reenact R.S. 40:1379.3(Q), relative to concealed handgun permits; to exempt2
correctional officers from the requirements of obtaining a concealed handgun permit;3
and to provide for related matters.4
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:5
Section 1.  R.S. 40:1379.3(Q) is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows:6
ยง1379.3. Statewide permits for concealed handguns; application procedures;7

Q.  The provisions of this Section shall not apply to commissioned law10
enforcement officers or correctional officers.11

Present law provides for the qualifications and criteria required to be issued a concealed
handgun permit.
Present law exempts commissioned law enforcement officers from the concealed handgun
permit requirements.
Proposed law retains present law and adds correctional officers to this exemption.
