Regular Session, 2012 HOUSE BILL NO. 944 BY REPRESENTATIVE HARRISON SCHOOLS/EMPLOYEES: Eliminates extended sick leave for public school teachers and employees AN ACT1 To amend and reenact R.S. 17:47(C)(3)(b) and to repeal R.S. 17:47(D), 500.2,2 1201(A)(1)(d), 1202, and 1206.2, relative to leave for teachers and other school3 employees; to eliminate provisions which provide relative to extended sick leave for4 teachers and other school employees; and to provide for related matters.5 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:6 Section 1. R.S. 17:47(C)(3)(b) is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows:7 ยง47. Sick and personal leave8 * * *9 C.10 * * *11 (3)12 * * *13 (b) In any case in which a secretary, paraprofessional employee, school aide,14 teacher, or superintendent of a special school supplements workers' compensation15 with accumulated or extended sick leave, the amount of sick leave used shall be16 calculated on an hourly basis.17 * * *18 Section 2. Present law authorizes teachers employed by the state special schools and teachers, school bus operators, and other school employees employed by city, parish, and other local public school boards to take a maximum of 90 days of extended sick leave in each six-year period of employment, which may be used for personal illness or illness of an immediate family member when the employee has no remaining regular sick leave balance. Proposed law repeals present law but provides that a request for extended sick leave that was approved and granted prior to the effective date of proposed law shall be honored. (Amends R.S. 17:47(C)(3)(b); Repeals R.S. 17:47(D), 500.2, 1201(A)(1)(d), 1202, and 1206.2)
