HLS 12RS-3674 ORIGINAL Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2012 HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 126 BY REPRESENTATIVE COX SPECIAL DAY/WEEK/MONTH: Recognizes May 1-June 14, 2012, as National Military Appreciation Month A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON1 To recognize the first of May through the fourteenth of June, 2012, as National Military2 Appreciation Month.3 WHEREAS, during National Military Appreciation Month, all members of the4 military are celebrated, including those who are members or staff of the Legislature of5 Louisiana; and6 WHEREAS, the freedom and security that citizens of the United States enjoy today7 are direct results of the blood shed and continued vigilance of the United States Armed8 Forces over the history of this great nation; and9 WHEREAS, the sacrifices of members of the armed forces and of the family10 members who support them have preserved the liberties that have enriched this nation and11 made it unique in the world community; and12 WHEREAS, in 2004, the United States Congress passed a resolution proclaiming13 National Military Appreciation Month and calling all Americans to remember those who14 gave their lives in defense of freedom and to honor the men and women of all of the armed15 forces who have served and are now serving their country, together with their families; and16 WHEREAS, the months of May and June have been selected for this display of17 patriotism because during these months, the nation celebrates Victory in Europe (VE) Day,18 Military Spouse Day, Loyalty Day, Armed Forces Day/Week, National Day of Prayer,19 Memorial Day, Navy Day, Army Day, and Flag Day; and20 HLS 12RS-3674 ORIGINAL HCR NO. 126 Page 2 of 2 WHEREAS, those who serve in the armed forces have earned the eternal respect,1 admiration, and gratitude of the state's citizens, and it is fitting to set aside a special month2 in recognition of their unwavering selflessness and courage.3 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby4 recognize the first of May through the fourteenth of June, 2012, as National Military5 Appreciation Month.6 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted7 to the secretary of the Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs.8 DIGEST The digest printed below was prepared by House Legislative Services.
