A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON
To recognize the first of May through the fourteenth of June, 2012, as National Military
Appreciation Month.
WHEREAS, during National Military Appreciation Month, all members of the
military are celebrated, including those who are members or staff of the Legislature of
Louisiana; and
WHEREAS, the freedom and security that citizens of the United States enjoy today
are direct results of the blood shed and continued vigilance of the United States Armed
Forces over the history of this great nation; and
WHEREAS, the sacrifices of members of the armed forces and of the family
members who support them have preserved the liberties that have enriched this nation and
made it unique in the world community; and
WHEREAS, in 2004, the United States Congress passed a resolution proclaiming
National Military Appreciation Month and calling all Americans to remember those who
gave their lives in defense of freedom and to honor the men and women of all of the armed
forces who have served and are now serving their country, together with their families; and
WHEREAS, the months of May and June have been selected for this display of
patriotism because during these months, the nation celebrates Victory in Europe (VE) Day,
Military Spouse Day, Loyalty Day, Armed Forces Day/Week, National Day of Prayer,
Memorial Day, Navy Day, Army Day, and Flag Day; and ENROLLEDHCR NO. 126

WHEREAS, those who serve in the armed forces have earned the eternal respect,
admiration, and gratitude of the state's citizens, and it is fitting to set aside a special month
in recognition of their unwavering selflessness and courage.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
recognize the first of May through the fourteenth of June, 2012, as National Military
Appreciation Month.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
to the secretary of the Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs.
